EOTECH EXPS3 HD — the Same Performance in a New Version
The newest member of the renowned holographic weapon sight family differs quite significantly in design from the well-known EXPS-3, while still retaining the same underlying technology and a wide field of view.
The EXPS3™ HD builds on EOTECH’s holographic legacy with a refined, all-aluminum hoodless design that enhances peripheral awareness while maintaining fast, both-eyes-open engagement. Featuring a left-side rotary dial, adaptive auto-brightness, and shake-awake technology, it delivers intuitive control without sacrificing magnifier compatibility.

Features of the new EXPS3 HD
The overall concept behind the EXPS3 HD is to deliver the wide field of view known from this sight family, the same holographic technology, mounting height, and performance – packaged in a simpler yet more durable design. The housing of the classic EXPS3 is made from reinforced polymer, with critical areas protected by its distinctive aluminum shroud. The new EXPS3 HD, with HD standing for Heavy Duty, features a monolithic housing made entirely of aluminum. Eliminating the characteristic protective shroud is also intended to increase the practical field of view.
Despite the significant change in materials, the weight of the EXPS3 HD differs only slightly from that of its predecessor.
Further changes have been introduced to the reticle brightness adjustment. Instead of buttons, brightness is now controlled via a side-mounted rotary dial, similar to those found on riflescopes and many red dot sights. This solution is intended to make operation significantly simpler and more intuitive.
While the EXPS3 offers 20 daytime settings and 10 night-vision (NV) settings, the new EXPS3 HD provides 7 daytime settings and 4 NV settings. Importantly, the new sight also introduces an automatic brightness adjustment function. In this mode, a much wider range of illumination levels is available, with brightness automatically matched to ambient lighting conditions.
To conserve battery life (the CR123 lithium battery), the EXPS3 HD is equipped with an automatic shutoff function that activates after a set period of inactivity. This timeout is programmable and can be set to 10 minutes, 1 hour, or 12 hours. Alternatively, the feature can be disabled entirely.
The EXPS3 HD features the same 1/3 lower co-witness optical axis height and a QD mount, making it fully compatible with the available magnifiers.
When will it be on the market?
The new EXPS3 HD is expected to enter distribution in the second half of this year or later. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) in the United States is 999 USD.
