Aimpoint COA and A-CUT – New Standards in the World of Pistol Red Dot Sights?
The A-CUT mounting standard was introduced together with the new COA sight, designed for use on handguns. The system was developed in cooperation with Glock and was initially offered only with selected models from the Austrian manufacturer.

Aimpoint, known for its many successful optics for long guns, has also made a strong mark in the handgun sight segment with the ACRO line. Compared to the ACRO, the new COA sight features a significantly slimmer housing, which is expected to improve not only carry ergonomics but also target acquisition speed. Thanks to the new mounting system, the COA sits deeper in the slide, allowing the simultaneous use of standard-height iron sights (making use of a new rear sight, discussed later in the article). Introduced alongside the COA, the A-CUT system is intended to provide a simpler yet more durable solution, in which the sight is mounted directly to the slide rather than via adapter plates.
The A-CUT Standard Enters the Commercial Market
At its booth at SHOT Show 2026 in Las Vegas, Aimpoint showcased numerous handguns from third-party manufacturers equipped with A-CUT interfaces and COA sights. The standard is officially entering the commercial market. It will be found not only on factory-produced models – A-CUT is also becoming available to qualified gunsmiths and mounting manufacturers. One such manufacturer is the renowned Spuhr, which unveiled an integrated mount in this standard at the same event.
