Russia Launches Hypersonic Zircon Missiles for the Third Time This Year

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has confirmed Russia’s third use this year of 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles during another large-scale missile-and-drone attack.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since 6:00 p.m. the previous day Russia had carried out another air and missile attack against multiple targets, launching a total of 521 munitions, primarily against the Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, and Odesa regions.

The Russians launched:

  • 4 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles (or P-800 Oniks/Yakhont) from occupied Crimea;
  • 32 Iskander-M ballistic missiles / S-300 surface-to-air missiles from Bryansk Oblast and Crimea;
  • 7 Raduga Kh-22 Burya / Kh-32 cruise missiles launched by Tu-22M3 long-range bombers from the airspace over Bryansk Oblast;
  • 28 Kh-101 / Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from over the Caspian Sea and Kursk Oblast;
  • 450 uncrewed aerial vehicles, including around 300 Geran/Shahed-type UAVs and various decoy drones (including Gerbera), launched from the directions of Kursk, Bryansk, Oryol, Shatalovo, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia.

The attack was repelled by aviation assets, air defense missile forces, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile air defense groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, by 9:30 a.m. local time air defense systems had shot down or forced the crash of 450 aerial targets, including 4 Zircon/Oniks missiles, 11 Iskander-M/S-300 missiles, 3 Kh-22/Kh-32 missiles, 20 Kh-101/Iskander-K missiles, and 412 UAVs.

Impacts by 27 missiles and 31 UAVs were recorded at 27 locations. In addition, debris from downed UAVs fell at 17 locations. At the time of publication, information regarding six missiles and several UAVs was still being clarified.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy:

Repair work is underway following Russia’s attack on our regions. Once again, there was a targeted strike against energy facilities—Russians used a significant number of ballistic missiles combined with other missiles, more than 70 missiles in total, as well as 450 attack drones. The strikes affected the Sumy and Kharkiv regions, the Kyiv region and the capital, as well as the Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, and Vinnytsia regions. So far, nine people have been injured as a result of the attack. Residential buildings and energy infrastructure have been destroyed. In Kyiv, drone attacks caused fires in high-rise buildings and damaged a kindergarten. All necessary services have been deployed wherever possible.

Using the coldest days of winter to terrorize people is more important to Russia than resorting to diplomacy. This clearly shows what our partners need to do and what can help. Timely deliveries of missiles for air defense systems and the protection of normal life are our priorities. Without pressure on Russia, this war will not end. At this moment, Moscow is choosing terror and escalation, which is why maximum pressure is necessary. I thank all our partners who understand this and are helping us.

State Emergency Service of Ukraine:

Three people were injured as a result of a nighttime Russian attack on Kyiv, which targeted the Dniprovskyi, Desnianskyi, Darnytskyi, Pecherskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts. All fires have been extinguished. Information on casualties is still being clarified. Rescuers and relevant services are working at the scene. Update: The number of people injured in the Russian shelling of Kyiv has risen to five. Two of them have been hospitalized. Efforts to eliminate the consequences of the attack are ongoing. Rescuers and appropriate municipal services remain at the scene.

Budynek jednostki straży pożarnej i ratowniczej w Zaporożu został uszkodzony w wyniku nocnego ostrzału rosyjskiego. Personel znajdował się w schronie, żaden z ratowników nie odniósł obrażeń.

A fire and rescue service building in Zaporizhzhia was damaged as a result of overnight Russian shelling. The personnel were in a shelter, and none of the rescuers were injured.
