On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, German group Rheinmetall AG announced that it has received an order from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence for the delivery of another batch of several tens of thousands of rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition along with modular propellant charges, worth several tens of millions of euros.

The contract was placed in the second quarter of this year and execution has already begun. Completion of deliveries is planned for the first quarter of 2027.
The ammunition is produced at Rheinmetall Expal Munitions in Spain. The ER02A1 B/B projectiles with base bleed and M203 propellant charges are already in use by various NATO nations. They can be fired from a wide range of 155mm weapon systems and offer long range and high effectiveness. The projectiles are fitted with EC-102 electronic fuzes with three programming modes: point detonating, time, and delay. First deliveries of this ammunition to the Armed Forces of Ukraine began in mid-2023. A further contract was signed on December 18, 2024.
Rheinmetall AG is continuously investing in the expansion of existing facilities and the construction of new production plants to meet growing demand for modern 155mm projectiles and propellant charges. Rheinmetall AG is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of large-caliber ammunition. The technology group headquartered in Düsseldorf has been increasing its production capacity since 2022 and plans to produce approximately 1.5 million 155mm artillery shells per year by 2030.
It is worth adding that on July 24, 2024, Rheinmetall AG received an order from the Ukrainian government worth over 100 million EUR for the delivery of technical equipment to build a production line for the Ukrainian Competence Center for Ammunition facility within 24 months – meaning the deadline for its completion is approximately now.
Previously, on June 10, 2024, Germany opened a production and repair facility in western Ukraine, managed by the Rheinmetall Ukraine Defence Industry LLC joint venture, established on October 18, 2023.
