On Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the headquarters of Telewizja Polska, a letter of intent on the matter was signed by Tomasz Sygut, Director General of Telewizja Polska; Marek Błoński, Director General of the Polish Press Agency; and Paweł Majcher, Editor-in-Chief of Polskie Radio. The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Digital Affairs, which recognizes the importance of efforts to promote reliable information, information security, and the development of audience competencies in this area. The ministry’s presence underscores the public dimension of the initiative, strengthens its importance for the quality of public debate in Poland, and raises the profile of cooperation between Telewizja Polska, the Polish Press Agency, and Polskie Radio.

“Disinformation is no longer merely a communication challenge, but a real threat to the stability of the state and the quality of public debate. In a fast-moving information environment, it undermines public trust and weakens institutions. That is why partnership-based cooperation between public administration and the media is crucial – it builds social resilience and guarantees access to reliable information,” said Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs.
“At the Ministry of Digital Affairs, we have established the Joint Operational Center for Countering Disinformation, which coordinates the state’s activities with the participation of key government institutions. We support it with the analytical resources of the NASK Data Analysis Center and educational projects, including the “Don’t Be a Troll” campaigns, which teach people how to recognize manipulation and counteract its effects. Our initiatives complement the role of public media – together, we are strengthening social resilience and building a secure information space,” emphasized Paweł Olszewski, Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs.
The central element of the initiative will be the sprawdzamto.pl portal, a place for publishing and organizing fact-checking content. It will include news, analyses, reports, and high-quality commentary explaining the mechanisms of media manipulation.
The sprawdzamto.pl portal will build its own editorial team, but the substantive and institutional support of public media will be key to the project’s development. Telewizja Polska will ensure reach and strong positioning of given topics in public debate, while TVP Info’s fact-checking programs, such as “Wykrywacz kłamstw” (“Lie Detector”), “Sprawdzamy” (“We Check”), and “Kłamstwo nie przejdzie” (“Lies Will Not Pass”), will play a major role in the initiative. In addition, plans are in place to launch a “Sprawdzam to Extra” format, which will expand the portal’s content on TVP Info.
“Verifying information and separating truth from falsehood is now the media’s most important task alongside informing the public. As a public broadcaster, we are consciously strengthening our fact-checking capabilities, because in an era of media fakes and omnipresent propaganda, informing the public has become a social mission,” commented Tomasz Sygut, Director General of Telewizja Polska.
The Polish Press Agency will strengthen the Sprawdzam to project on the analytical side, giving published content precision and the standard of description expected of a news agency. PAP will prepare a weekly newsletter summarizing the most important disinformation “threats of the week,” supplemented with local, national, and international context. In cooperation with IBRiS, PAP will also conduct a public opinion survey twice a year to assess the level of public awareness of disinformation. Content created as part of the project — texts and multimedia materials — will be distributed through PAP’s Daily Information Service, the PAP.pl portal, specialized portals, and the Agency’s social media channels.
“The Polish Press Agency plays a key role in the state’s information security system, providing reliable, verified, and credible news to audiences in Poland and abroad. In an era of growing disinformation, information wars, and the dynamic development of artificial intelligence-based tools, this role is becoming even more important. PAP’s involvement in the “Sprawdzam to” project is a natural extension of our mission. We are contributing analytical expertise and experience in monitoring and explaining complex information phenomena,” emphasized Marek Błoński, Director General of the Polish Press Agency.
“Through regular analyses, reports, and public opinion surveys, we want not only to identify disinformation narratives, but also to strengthen social resilience to information manipulation. An important element of our activities is the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence tools in editorial and analytical work. PAP is consistently developing AI solutions as support for journalists and analysts, not to replace their knowledge and responsibility, but to improve the quality, speed, and precision of communication. In a world of information overload, credible sources are becoming the foundation of public trust – and PAP intends to continue strengthening this role,” added Zuzanna Dąbrowska, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of PAP.
Polskie Radio will deepen and expand coverage on its channels of topics related to exposing disinformation, explaining the mechanisms of manipulation, and organizing knowledge in this area, building listeners’ trust through an expert tone and regular contact with audiences. Polskie Radio podcasts will play an important role.
“The signing of an agreement on a joint fact-checking project is an important step toward reliable information in the public sphere, which is increasingly being flooded by a wave of disinformation. In such a reality, cooperation between editorial teams is no longer a choice, but a necessity. As Polskie Radio, we not only inform, but also actively build public trust by delivering verified and credible content. Joint action is a real benefit for audiences and a clear signal that journalistic standards matter,” said Paweł Majcher, Editor-in-Chief of Polskie Radio.
The sprawdzamto.pl portal will have social media profiles to increase reach and audience engagement, reinforcing the initiative’s multichannel nature.
“This project is being created not only to respond to falsehoods. It is meant to give audiences a fixed point of reference – a place where they can check what is true, what is manipulation, and what requires broader context. Users should be able to see immediately what has been checked, what the verdict is, and what it is based on. The portal will also educate and teach people how to recognize manipulation on their own,” concluded Paweł Moskalewicz, head of the editorial team for countering disinformation at TAI and the Sprawdzamto.pl portal.
The portal will launch later in May 2026.
