On Friday, April 3, 2026, the National Security Bureau (BBN) announced that Karol Nawrocki, President of the Republic of Poland and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, had signed, on April 3, 2026, a decision on the use of units and subunits of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland to support the Border Guard.

From April 5, 2026, to October 1, 2026, units and subunits of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland will be deployed to ensure the inviolability of the state border and to maintain public safety and order within the territorial jurisdiction of border crossings and in the border zone along Poland’s state border with the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Lithuania.
On July 7, 2025, the Armed Forces Operational Command (DO RSZ) announced the launch of Operation Safe West on the state border with the Federal Republic of Germany and the extension of Operation Safe Podlasie to cover the border with the Republic of Lithuania. The controls were subsequently extended on August 6 until October 4, 2025.
On October 3, 2025, the President of the Republic of Poland signed a decision extending the presence of soldiers on the borders until April 5 this year, which has now been extended again today by six months.
