On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in Warsaw, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence Cezary Tomczyk met with US Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman. The talks focused on prospects for developing Polish-US cooperation in the space domain and on directions for building the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces in this area.

„Taking advantage of the fact that Gen. Saltzman is with us, I would like to say that Poland is only beginning to build its space capabilities, but today, from NATO’s perspective and from the perspective of our countries, the space domain is a fully fledged operational domain. Just a few years ago in Poland, when people talked about space forces or our capabilities, many tended to smile. Indeed, as of the end of 2023, Poland had exactly zero satellites. By the end of this year, we will have 11 satellites in low Earth orbit, and this is not our final word,” said Cezary Tomczyk, Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence (First satellite of the MikroGlob Earth Observation Satellite System reaches space).
„Today, we are launching strategic military cooperation in space between the United States Space Force and the Ministry of National Defence. As I said, this includes missile detection and tracking, satellite communications, but also, for example, countering GPS jamming, as well as exercises and training. Talks have been underway for many hours here at the Ministry of National Defence, in our Polish Pentagon, and further discussions lie ahead on setting these new directions. Once again, I would like to thank the American delegation very much. I believe that today we are building this alliance on completely different terms than in the past. Today, we can offer each other a great deal, and both sides have cards in hand that help in this process,” Deputy Minister of National Defence Cezary Tomczyk emphasized.
During the meeting, a Statement of Intent was signed between the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Poland and the United States Space Force. The document further develops the cooperation framework established in 2023 and opens the way for new joint initiatives with a direct impact on national security and NATO defense capabilities. The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador to Poland Thomas Rose and Brig. Gen. Marcin Górka, director of the Ministry of National Defence’s Innovation Department and the ministry’s plenipotentiary for space.
The signed declaration covers, among other areas, military satellite communications, Space Situational Awareness, countering threats to satellite navigation systems, or NAVWAR, Space Control capabilities, and Missile Warning systems. The US side confirmed its readiness to support the development of Polish space capabilities through the exchange of experience, training, exercises, and the development of interoperability between the Polish Armed Forces and the US Space Force.
During the talks, the Ministry of National Defence presented its activities related to building national space capabilities, including the development of the Geospatial Intelligence and Satellite Services Agency (ARGUS) and the Satellite Operations Center. Both sides emphasized that the cooperation being developed goes beyond the bilateral dimension and represents an important contribution to strengthening security on NATO’s eastern flank.
