On Thursday, April 16, 2026, the press team of the Territorial Defence Forces Command (DWOT) announced that on April 1 the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań had notified the commander of the 12th Greater Poland Territorial Defence Brigade of the detention of a Territorial Military Service (TSW) soldier on suspicion of committing an offense under Article 130 §§ 1 and 5 of the Penal Code, namely espionage or acting on behalf of a foreign intelligence service.

Immediately after receiving the information, the brigade commander decided to immediately release the individual concerned from Territorial Military Service.
The detained man held a basic security clearance for classified information, which is required for every service position held by Territorial Military Service soldiers. He did not serve in border protection duties or in any other operations related to state security.
The proceedings in this case are being conducted by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań.

Based on materials obtained by the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW), the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań initiated an investigation concerning an offense under Article 130 of the Penal Code. In the course of the proceedings, officers of the Internal Security Agency (ABW) detained a Polish citizen, who was then charged. The prosecutor’s office submitted a motion to the court for pre-trial detention. The court did not grant the motion and instead applied non-custodial preventive measures. The court’s decision is not final.
The prosecutor’s office appealed the decision of the District Court regarding the preventive measures by filing the appropriate complaint.
In view of the interests of the investigation, no further information can be provided at this stage.

According to findings by Gazeta Wyborcza, the detainee is radio operator Jarosław K., and the Military Counterintelligence Service’s investigation concerns the period from July 2023 to April 2024, while the suspect joined the Territorial Defence Forces in March 2024.
A few days before his detention, he reportedly took part in a gathering in Warsaw organized by a milieu with pro-Russian and anti-Western views. The man had publicly expressed pro-Russian, anti-Ukrainian, and antisemitic views, including during a speech at Freedom Square in Poznań in July 2024.
The suspect was detained by ABW officers in Poznań on March 30 of this year. He faces a prison sentence ranging from 8 years to life imprisonment.
