On Thursday, March 12, 2026, Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski announced that in recent days a cyberattack on the servers of the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) in Świerk had been thwarted.

Important information.
We have identified an attempted hacking attack on the servers of the National Centre for Nuclear Research. The hackers’ actions were thwarted, and all procedures functioned as intended. The NCBJ is in ongoing coordination with state services, including NASK and the Ministry of Energy.
An expanded analysis of the incident is underway. At present, we do not identify any threats to the operations of the National Centre for Nuclear Research. We will provide updates on the findings as they become available.

Earlier, in the News Michalskiego podcast on TVN24+, Minister Gawkowski revealed that the initial identification of the entry vectors, the points from which the attack was carried out, are linked to Iran, but he noted that this could also be a form of camouflage. Final conclusions are expected only after further analysis by the relevant services.

The National Centre for Nuclear Research informs that recently there was an attempted cyberattack on the Institute’s IT infrastructure. Thanks to the swift and effective actions of security systems and incident-response procedures, as well as the rapid reaction of our teams, the attack was thwarted and the integrity of the systems was not compromised.
“All security systems operated in accordance with procedures, the attempt was blocked, and the measures taken made it possible to immediately secure the infrastructure and maintain the continuity of the Institute’s operations. No production, operational, or research processes were disrupted, and the MARIA reactor is operating safely and without interruption, at full power,” said Prof. Jakub Kupecki, Director of the NCBJ.
The National Centre for Nuclear Research remains in ongoing communication with the relevant state institutions, and the process is being efficiently coordinated. We are working closely on this matter with NASK-PIB, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, as well as the Ministry of Energy and Minister Miłosz Motyka, to ensure the highest level of security for critical infrastructure.
The situation is being continuously monitored by the appropriate services and security teams. The National Centre for Nuclear Research remains fully prepared to respond to any attempts to compromise digital security and the state’s critical infrastructure.
We emphasize that the National Centre for Nuclear Research is operating without disruption, and the MARIA nuclear reactor is safe.
