Nearly Half a Thousand Drones and Missiles Launched at Targets in Ukraine

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported another large-scale Russian missile and drone attack, primarily targeting Kyiv.

On Saturday, March 14, 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that since 6:00 p.m. the previous day, Russia had carried out another air and missile attack on various targets, launching 498 munitions, most of which were shot down.

Photo: State Emergency Service of Ukraine (Kyiv branch)

The Russians launched:

  • 2 hypersonic 3M22 Zircon cruise missiles from occupied Crimea;
  • 13 Iskander-M ballistic missiles / S-400 surface-to-air missiles from the Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh regions;
  • 25 Kalibr cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea;
  • 24 Kh-101 cruise missiles launched by strategic bombers over the Vologda region;
  • 4 Kh-59 Ovod / Kh-69 air-launched guided missiles fired from over the Kursk region and the occupied Donetsk region;
  • 430 unmanned aerial vehicles, including around 250 Geran/Shahed and Italmas types, as well as various drone decoys (including Gerbera), launched from the directions of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Shatalovo, Millerovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Hvardiiske and Chauda in Crimea.

The main direction of the strike was the Kyiv region.

The attack was repelled by aviation, air defense missile forces, electronic warfare (EW) units, unmanned systems units, and mobile air defense groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, as of 9:00 a.m. local time, air defense systems had shot down or caused to crash 460 targets, including 1 Zircon, 7 Iskander-M/S-400 missiles, 25 Kalibr missiles, 24 Kh-101 missiles, 1 Kh-59 Ovod/Kh-69 missile, and 402 UAVs.

Hits by 6 missiles and 28 UAVs were recorded across 11 locations, and debris from intercepted drones was reported at 7 locations. At the time of publication, information regarding 4 missiles was still being clarified, while several UAVs remained in the air.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine

Currently, the liquidation of the consequences of the massive Russian strike is underway in the Kyiv region, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Mykolaiv regions. All necessary services have been involved. The main target for the Russians was the energy sector of the Kyiv region, but, unfortunately, ordinary houses, schools, and civilian enterprises have also been hit and damaged. As of now, four people have died. My condolences to all relatives and friends. Many are injured, and people are still turning to medical workers.

During this night, the Russians used about 430 drones of various types and a significant number of missiles. There were only 13 ballistic missiles, the total number of missiles in this strike was 68. According to preliminary data, 58 of them were shot down by our air defense system. And each such night of Russian strikes is a reminder to all our partners that air defense systems and missiles for them are practically a daily need. Every agreement for the supply of missiles cannot wait – everything must be implemented as soon as possible. Our agreements to increase the production of air defense missiles are a critical area, and this area requires 100 percent attention. Russia will try to take advantage of the war in the Middle East to destroy more here, in Europe, in Ukraine. That is why we need to consciously approach the real level of threat and prepare accordingly, namely: we in Europe need to develop such production of missiles for air defense – and especially against ballistics – and all other necessary systems that will allow us to really protect life, no matter what happens in any other part of the world. Europe is able to provide such reliable protection. Thank you to everyone who helps!

According to the attached map, the Russians were to have used four Zircon missiles (pink lines) to strike targets in the Kyiv region; however, according to the General Staff, only two were used.

At 2:57 a.m., the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command issued the following statement:

Attention. Due to the activity of long-range aviation of the Russian Federation conducting strikes on the territory of Ukraine, operations of Polish and allied aircraft have commenced in our airspace.

In accordance with established procedures, the Operational Commander activated the necessary forces and assets at his disposal. Quick reaction alert fighter pairs and an airborne early warning aircraft were scrambled, while ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems reached the highest level of readiness.

These measures are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing and protecting the airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to threatened regions.

The Operational Command, in line with the assumptions of Operation Eastern Dawn, is monitoring the situation in Ukraine and remains ready to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

At 6:04 a.m., another statement was released:

The operation of Polish and allied aircraft in our airspace, related to strikes carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, has concluded. The activated ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to standard operational activity.

We inform that no violation of Polish airspace was observed.

We thank NATO support, NATO Allied Air Command, the Spanish Air Force, and the German Air Force, whose aircraft helped ensure the security of Polish airspace today. We also extend our thanks to the Dutch Armed Forces for their support with air defense systems.

The Polish Armed Forces, in accordance with the assumptions of Operation Eastern Dawn, continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine and remain on constant readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

Additionally, at 4:17 a.m., the Polish Air Navigation Services Agency reported that, in order to ensure freedom of operation for military aviation, airports in Rzeszów and Lublin had temporarily suspended flight operations. At 5:46 a.m., a statement was issued announcing the resumption of operations at the aforementioned airports.
