A classic shotgun with the functionality of a modern carbine
At its core, the 990 SPX is a basic gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun, but it has been equipped with several important features that significantly enhance its functionality.
First, however – available models. At launch, Mossberg is introducing an 8-round model with an 18.5-inch (470 mm) barrel and a 6-round model with a 14.75-inch (375 mm) barrel. For shotguns, these are typically practical configurations commonly seen in use by uniformed services.
Among the features that set the 990 SPX apart from more traditional models are:
- a red-dot mounting interface on the receiver, allowing for a low, comfortable optic installation (Shield RMSc footprint, with RMR, Docter, and Leupold adapters included),
- an all-new forend designed for high ergonomics and accessory mounting, featuring QD sockets, an integrated heat shield, and the M-LOK system,
- a stock adjustable via spacers and equipped with QD attachment points,
- a redesigned, enlarged safety and bolt release,
- ghost ring iron sights for rapid target acquisition.
