More Than 500 Drones and Missiles Launched at Targets in Ukraine

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported another massive Russian missile and drone attack targeting sites in eleven oblasts.

On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that, since 6:00 p.m. yesterday, Russia had carried out another air and missile attack against various targets, launching 509 munitions, mainly at targets in eleven oblasts.

Photo: State Emergency Service of Ukraine

The Russians launched:

  • 2 3M22 Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles from occupied Crimea;
  • 13 Iskander-M ballistic missiles / S-400 surface-to-air missiles from Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh oblasts;
  • 14 Kalibr cruise missiles from ships in the Black Sea;
  • 480 unmanned aerial vehicles, including about 290 Geran/Shahed and Italmas drones, as well as decoy drones of various types (including Gerbera), launched from the directions of Millerovo, Kursk, Bryansk, Oryol, Shatalovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as Hvardiiske and Chauda in Crimea.

The main directions of attack were Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr Oblast, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, and Chernivtsi Oblast.

The attack was repelled by aviation, air defense missile units, electronic warfare (EW) and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile air defense groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, by 9:00 a.m. local time, air defense systems had shot down or suppressed 472 targets, including 8 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, 11 Kalibr cruise missiles, and 453 UAVs.

Hits were recorded from 9 missiles (2 hypersonic and 7 ballistic) and 26 UAVs at 22 locations, and debris from downed drones was reported falling at 5 locations. At the time the information was published, details regarding one missile were still being clarified, and several UAVs remained in the airspace.

Unfortunately, as a result of another Russian terrorist attack in Kharkiv, people were killed and injured. We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the victims…” the press release concludes.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy:

Since yesterday evening, work has been underway to clear the rubble of a residential building in Kharkiv following a Russian ballistic missile strike. An entire section of the building was destroyed, and the upper floors of a neighboring building were damaged. Tragically, it is currently known that 7 people have been killed. More than 10 people were injured, including children. People may still be trapped under the rubble. All necessary services are working at the scene to carry out the rescue operation.

Russia used 29 missiles against Ukraine, nearly half of them ballistic missiles, as well as 480 drones, most of them Shaheds. Energy infrastructure in Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, and Chernivtsi Oblast, as well as a railway line in Zhytomyr Oblast, came under attack. Damage was also recorded in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Poltava, Sumy, and Cherkasy oblasts. The relevant services are working everywhere they are needed.

Our partners must respond to these brutal attacks on human life. I thank everyone who will not remain silent. Russia has not abandoned its attempts to destroy Ukraine’s residential and critical infrastructure, which is why support must continue. The PURL initiative must remain just as active. We are counting on active cooperation with the European Union to ensure better protection for our citizens. I am grateful to everyone helping strengthen our defense.

State Emergency Service of Ukraine:

Kharkiv: A Russian missile strike destroyed a five-story building. The body of a deceased person was recovered from the rubble. Ten people were previously reported injured, including two children. Four people were rescued. The strike destroyed the entrances from the first through the fifth floor.

Kharkiv: Search and rescue operations are ongoing at the site of the Russian attack. Rescuers have recovered the bodies of four people from beneath the rubble of the five-story building. Search and rescue operations and firefighting efforts are continuing.

“Kharkiv: Rescuers recovered the body of a dead child while clearing the rubble. A total of seven people, including two children, were killed in the Russian terrorist attack. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.”

In Zhytomyr Oblast, rescuers worked to deal with the aftermath of the overnight Russian attack. As a result of the enemy shelling, two fires broke out at infrastructure facilities. Rescue operations were hampered by air raids. Earlier, no fatalities or injuries had been reported.

At 4:13 a.m., the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command published the following statement:

Attention. In connection with missile attacks by the Russian Federation, which is carrying out strikes on the territory of Ukraine, military aircraft have begun operating in our airspace.

In accordance with the established procedures, the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command has activated the necessary forces and assets at its disposal. Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness.

These actions are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing and protecting the airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to the threatened areas.

The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command is monitoring the current situation, and the subordinate forces and assets remain ready for an immediate response.

At 4:30 a.m., another statement was published:

The operation of military aircraft in Polish airspace, launched in connection with the Russian Federation’s missile strikes on Ukraine, has ended. The activated ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to their standard operational activity.

We inform you that no violation of the airspace of the Republic of Poland was observed.

In accordance with the assumptions of Operation Eastern Dawn, the Polish Armed Forces are continuously monitoring the situation on the territory of Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace.
