Mactronic M-Fire Guardian XR – A Tool for Those Who Save Lives

According to Mactronic, the M-Fire Guardian XR is the world’s first specialist angle flashlight with ATEX certification that emits red signal light. The new product is designed to enhance the safety of firefighters and rescue workers during road accidents, evacuations, and operations in explosion-risk zones. The flashlight was developed by engineers in Wrocław.
“The idea for the Guardian didn’t come out of nowhere,” says Damian Kempa, Head of Research and Development at Mactronic Group in Wrocław. “Our flashlights are used daily by professionals such as firefighters and paramedics. Their experience provides us with an invaluable source of practical knowledge.”
Feedback from firefighters contributed to the addition of red auxiliary light and several ergonomic improvements in Mactronic’s flagship model.

Features of Mactronic M-Fire Guardian XR
Two Sources Of Light
The M-Fire Guardian XR is equipped with two separate light sources, each operated by its own switch, making the flashlight fully intuitive to use—even while wearing protective gloves.
The main source emits white light with an output of 204 lumens and a maximum range of 205 meters. It features a focused spotlight beam surrounded by a wide flood beam to illuminate the broader field of vision.
The second source provides auxiliary red light, designed for nighttime operations without disrupting the eye’s dark adaptation (and thus not interfering with helicopter pilots’ vision). It also serves as a signaling and identification tool during rescue missions. This signaling function is enhanced by an optional strobe mode.
“It might seem obvious, yet no one thought of it before! Flashing red light clearly marks your position without blinding and offers strong contrast. It’s especially effective during evacuations and when securing road accident sites,” says Tomasz Trusewicz, a firefighter, diver, and mountain rescuer from Jelenia Góra, who has already used the new flashlight.
Adapted for Operation in Hazardous Conditions
The M-Fire Guardian XR is intrinsically safe and ATEX-certified for Gas Zone 0, meaning it ensures complete operational safety in explosive atmospheres. It is designed for use in environments containing mixtures of flammable liquids, vapors, and gases—making it suitable for industries such as chemical, gas, and fuel sectors.
The ATEX certifications held by the M-Fire Guardian XR are as follows:
- I M1 Ex ia I Ma – The device is suitable for use in underground mining environments with a constant risk of explosion. It features intrinsically safe construction and a high safety level even in the event of malfunction.
- II 1G Ex ia IIC T4 Ga – The device is intended for use in industrial explosive zones, capable of safe operation in Zone 0 (continuous gas hazard). It is intrinsically safe, certified for use with the most explosive gas group IIC, and safe for operation in environments with gases that have ignition temperatures above 135 °C.
Ergonomics and Durability
The grip area of the housing features rubberized, textured inserts to ensure a secure hold. The rubber layer also serves to absorb impacts. The flashlight weighs 305 grams.
A clip on the back of the housing allows it to be attached to a suit or gear. Based on feedback from firefighters, the design incorporates special weight distribution to prevent the head from tilting downward, helping the flashlight maintain an upright position.

The design meets the IP67 protection rating, meaning it is sealed against dust ingress and water immersion (up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes). This also allows for safe cleaning after operations. The housing has been streamlined to eliminate unnecessary crevices, preventing the buildup of dirt and debris.
Battery with Charge Indicator
The flashlight is powered by a 2600 mAh Li-Ion battery, providing up to 6 hours of runtime for the main LED in High mode (240 lm) and up to 224 hours in Survivor mode. It is recharged using a dedicated charging base compatible with both a 230V AC wall adapter and a 12V/24V vehicle power supply. Battery status can be easily monitored via indicator LEDs located on both the flashlight and the charging base. The flashlight can be docked in the base using one hand, allowing for quicker handling during operations.

Debut at the IFRE Firefighting Expo in Kielce
The premiere of the Guardian flashlight will take place at the IFRE-EXPO trade show—an event in Poland dedicated to professional equipment for firefighters and rescue personnel. Held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of the Interior and Administration, the event will begin on June 12 and run for three days.
“The Guardian will debut at an event dedicated to firefighters. We’re proud that they will be the first to test our latest innovative product,” adds Damian Kempa from Mactronic.
