Kel-Tec PR-3AT – a subcompact with impressive capacity
How was such a high capacity achieved in such a small pistol?
PR-3AT surprises with an unprecedented magazine capacity in this segment
Depending on the version, the internal magazine holds from 10 to 13 rounds. The increased capacity is achieved by a removable grip baseplate, which can be replaced with a longer alternative.
The 10-round and 13-round configurations, using an internal magazine, is also intended to result in a simpler design and lower weight.
The pistol employs a relatively uncommon operating principle today, based on short-recoil operation with barrel locking achieved through barrel rotation. All of the solutions used by Kel-Tec translate into dimensions of 142 mm in length, 111 mm in height, 24 mm in width, and a weight of 274 g unloaded and 404 g with a full magazine (although the manufacturer does not specify for which capacity version).
Despite its subcompact dimensions and unconventional, original design, the PR-3AT is compatible with red-dot sights. In the special PR-3AT Defender variant, the pistol is delivered with a factory-mounted Viridian RFX-1 Green Dot optic. In addition, the package includes a belt clip, four 7-round stripper clips, and a Rounded Gear IWB holster, an entire CCW system in one package.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price is 399.99 USD for the PR-3AT (13+1) and PR-3AT 10 (10+1), and $589.99 for the PR-3AT Defender (13+1, red dot, CCW package).
