According to SK Group, IWI – its subsidiary – has supplied the Israel Defense Forces with another batch of X95 assault rifles. The X95 is one of the standard 5.56 mm rifles in IDF service and one of the few bullpup designs in continuous operational use that has also achieved export success.
“With this latest delivery, we are continuing to support the operational readiness of the IDF with advanced, combat-proven systems tailored to the demands of modern warfare,” said SK Group’s Vice Chairman Ronen Hamudot. “The X95 reflects our close collaboration with IDF units and our commitment to equipping Israel’s defense forces with reliable, mission-ready platforms designed for today’s complex battlefield realities.”
X95 as a modern bullpup
The X95 rifles are a direct development of the Tavor family, representing its modernization based on the operational experience of Israeli special forces. Their key feature is modularity, enabled by the ease of swapping barrels. Thanks to this, the standard 5.56×45 mm NATO rifle can be converted into a suppressed variant chambered for subsonic 300 BLK ammunition.
The X95 uses a long-stroke gas piston system with a rotating bolt. With a dedicated conversion kit, the X95 can be turned into a 9 x 19 mm Parabellum submachine gun – in this configuration it operates on a closed-bolt blowback system. Another distinguishing feature is the ability to adapt the X95 for left-handed users by changing the direction of ejection and repositioning the charging handle. The rifles are also offered in variants chambered for the Russian 5.45×39 mm cartridge.
IWI has achieved multiple export successes with the X95 – among the largest users are formations under India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, as described in detail in Strategic Frontier magazine in the article Tavor in India: Israeli Assault Rifle’s Journey and Prospects in India.
