IWA 2026: UTG Pro Monolithic Handguard MP5

At the large Leapers Group booth, a collection of new UTG Pro firearm accessories was presented. Particular attention was drawn to the MP5 submachine gun accessory line – both for standard MP5 models and the MP5K – which includes not only simple mounts and enlarged controls, but also comprehensive solutions that expand the modular capabilities of this legendary platform.

What immediately stood out were the so-called “monolithic handguards,” as described by the manufacturer, offered in several variants. This product is far more than just a handguard. It is a comprehensive solution that allows the venerable MP5 to match modern designs in terms of accessory mounting capabilities. It combines an M-LOK handguard with a top cover featuring additional mounting points and a Picatinny rail. It is an example of a product that solves two problems at once. Importantly, it has been designed in such a way that virtually the entire free surface of the receiver has been utilized for mounting points, giving the user a high degree of configuration flexibility.

Importantly, UTG Pro does not limit itself to the standard MP5 version – the new line also includes solutions for the MP5K.

Submachine guns are often used in a suppressed configuration. The same applies to the MP5, which is well known for its classic tri-lug muzzle mount. The designers took this into account and also prepared a version with a significantly wider handguard, designed to overlap the muzzle device itself. Its diameter is large enough to provide sufficient clearance both for the suppressor and for the mounting hardware of the M-LOK system.

In addition to the Monolithic Handguard, several smaller accessories were also presented:

• a Picatinny optics mount installed in the traditional position behind the rear diopter sight,

• an M-LOK mount attached to the front sight base,

• an extended charging handle.

The MP5 submachine gun and its numerous licensed and unlicensed copies remain a benchmark of quality to this day. Although the platform has aged in terms of layout and ergonomics, its roller-delayed blowback operating system provides a significant advantage in control and recoil management compared to counterparts using a simple blowback mechanism. It is therefore no surprise that the MP5 is still in service with countless law enforcement and military units worldwide. These users continue to look for ways to modernize the platform, and UTG Pro is responding to that demand.
