On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems announced the delivery of the 1,000th Typhoon-family remote-controlled weapon station to the Israeli Navy (Heil HaYam HaYisraeli).

Typhoon-family systems are currently integrated with a range of naval platforms operated by 25 navies and maritime forces worldwide, including those of the United States, Canada, and Australia, providing an operational response to a broad spectrum of requirements and threats in the maritime domain.
In Israel, Typhoon and Mini-Typhoon systems have been operated by the Israeli Navy since 2000. As part of the continuing cooperation between Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and the Israeli Navy, the company recently delivered Typhoon Mk-30c medium-caliber naval remote-controlled weapon systems to further enhance the capabilities of its vessels. These include the four Sa’ar 6-class missile corvettes INS Magen, Oz, Atzmaut, and Nitzahon, based on a modified version of the German Braunschweig-class design (Korvette 130), itself a variant of TKMS’s MEKO A100 (Mehrzweck-Kombination), as part of the ongoing modernization of the Navy’s combat capabilities.
Additional systems are expected to enter service in the coming years, replacing older mounts currently operated aboard Israeli Navy vessels, while new Mini-Typhoon systems are also to be integrated into the operational inventory.
The combat-proven Typhoon systems provide an effective response to a range of maritime threats, including both surface and aerial targets. In recent years, the system has demonstrated its ability to counter small, fast, low-signature threats, including unmanned aircraft and drones, by combining advanced fire-control and tracking capabilities that enable the rapid detection, identification, and precise engagement of threats (Rafael successfully demonstrates Typhoon 30 C-UAS capabilities in the United States).

The system features high-capacity ammunition magazines for sustained engagements, rapid switching between ammunition types depending on the nature of the threat, and automated functions that shorten reaction times and reduce the operator’s workload. It also supports advanced ammunition, including programmable air-burst munitions (ABM) and high-explosive fragmentation rounds (HDR), enhancing its effectiveness against both aerial and surface threats.
Like Rafael’s other naval systems, Typhoon is based on a modular, mission-oriented design, enabling rapid adaptation to a wide range of vessels and flexible integration tailored to the user’s requirements.
