The competition to select the contractor for the design concept of the monument to Lieutenant General Tadeusz Jordan-Rozwadowski, together with the arrangement of its surroundings and models, was conducted as part of a joint initiative of the Ministry of National Defence and the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. The undertaking received broad support from historical and expert circles, which emphasize the general’s importance to the process of building and modernizing the structures of the Polish Armed Forces after the restoration of independence.
The planned monument will be a tribute to the first Chief of the General Staff of the reborn Republic of Poland—a co-author of the operational plans for the victorious Polish-Soviet War and one of the principal architects of the modern Polish army. The ceremonial unveiling of the monument is scheduled for October 2026, on the Day of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. The monument will be located in front of the main entrance to the courtyard of the General Staff headquarters at 4A Rakowiecka Street in Warsaw.
During the opening of the exhibition, Deputy Minister of National Defence Stanisław Wziątek stressed the importance of the initiative for cultivating tradition and historical memory. “The year 2026 has been recognized by all of us in the Armed Forces as the Year of Lieutenant General Tadeusz Jordan-Rozwadowski. It is a time when we want to recall his figure, achievements, and military genius. This general was one of the creators of independent Poland,” said the Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence.
The exhibition of designs marks another stage in the effort to commemorate the general. Earlier, a cornerstone-laying ceremony for the construction of the monument was held, symbolically inaugurating the process of creating a memorial site dedicated to one of the most outstanding commanders in the history of the Polish armed forces. At the same time, the undertaking is an expression of concern for preserving the heritage and traditions of Polish arms.
