On Monday, February 9, 2026, the Israeli company Elbit Systems announced that it had signed a contract worth over 100 million USD with the MAFAT Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) at the Ministry of Defense to develop advanced capabilities in cyber warfare, digitalization, and border protection.
The new systems, representing the fifth generation of the Israel Defense Forces’ digitalization framework, will integrate innovative technologies in command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR), cyber warfare, and border protection. The projects will be carried out by joint development teams composed of Elbit Systems, MAFAT, and the Israel Defense Forces Ground Forces, leveraging Elbit Systems’ digital warfare infrastructure.
Next-Generation Digital Army Program (Tzayad)
Under this program, Elbit Systems will develop fifth-generation digitalization systems for the Israel Defense Forces, providing advanced command-and-control capabilities to headquarters at all levels, as well as to subordinate units, with full multi-domain connectivity across air, sea, and land.
Key capabilities include:
- Accelerated implementation of sensor-to-shooter loop capabilities across all service branches;
- Support for operational and tactical decision-making through advanced artificial intelligence tools;
- Increased tactical network bandwidth extending to frontline combat units;
- An open digital ecosystem enabling rapid integration of diverse platforms and sensors.
Next-Generation Multi-Sensor Border Defense System (“MARS”)
Elbit Systems will deliver an advanced sensor and effector management system for border protection, drawing on lessons learned during the so-called first digital war (Operation Iron Swords). Key capabilities include:
- Advanced AI-based functions for detecting and classifying large numbers of targets;
- Rapid integration of a wide range of sensors and effectors;
- Comprehensive multi-mission management;
- Connectivity among various uniformed services.
Elbit Systems is a leader in military digitalization, offering products and services that enhance connectivity and interoperability. These solutions enable real-time situational awareness, ensuring precision and maneuverability in complex and rapidly evolving combat environments. The technology has enabled the Israel Defense Forces to operate as a fully digital force, leveraging a dynamic, intelligent, and cognitive network.
