CZ 75 LEGEND – the return of the iconic Czech pistol in its original configuration

The CZ 75 was developed in the early 1970s in Czechoslovakia as a modern design intended for Western markets. Its creator, František Koucký, considered by many to be one of the most influential firearms designers of his time, based the new pistol on his experience, technical intuition, and deep understanding of the principles by which firearms should be designed. The CZ 75 was developed without the use of digital tools or simulations, yet this did not prevent the creation of a design that, in the view of many, was a full generation ahead of its time.

At the time, the CZ 75 offered an unparalleled combination of features: excellent ergonomics, low recoil, a smooth SA/DA trigger mechanism, and the then-distinctive capacity of a double-stack magazine. This combination gave rise to the term “Wonder Nine” and set the standard for modern pistols chambered in 9×19 mm Parabellum.

One of the key features of the CZ 75 is its ergonomics. The shape of the grip allows for a natural and secure hold for shooters with different hand sizes and became a benchmark for subsequent designs. The slide riding inside the frame also plays a crucial role, allowing the barrel to be set lower, reducing slide mass, and contributing to reduced recoil and improved weapon control.

Another distinguishing feature of the CZ 75 is its SA/DA trigger mechanism with patented solutions, characterized by smooth operation in both single-action and double-action modes.

Thanks to its ahead-of-its-time design, the CZ 75 remains one of the most frequently copied pistols to this day, comparable to the legendary Colt 1911. The CZ 75 became an inspiration for many manufacturers and the foundation of a family that continues to evolve.

After 1989, CZ was able to further develop the CZ 75 platform, creating an extensive lineup of service, commercial, and purely sport-oriented firearms. The technical legacy of this design endures to this day. A prime example is the popular CZ SHADOW line, which dominates the IPSC competition segment worldwide. Regardless, the original CZ 75 holds a special place in the history of handguns and played a key role in the emergence of a new segment within it.
