On Monday, June 15, 2026, the first day of the 29th edition of Eurosatory 2026, the international defense industry trade show organized by Coges Events, taking place June 15-19 of this year in Paris-Nord Villepinte near Paris, British company Avon Protection announced the launch of a new CBRN powered air-purifying respirator modular filtration system, the CBRN Combination System (CS-PAPR), for integration with the Combination Respirator Unit (CRU).

According to the manufacturer, the CS-PAPR SD will give military special forces and tactical teams the ability to switch between levels of respiratory protection depending on the threat level, providing greater safety for the user. The CS-PAPR SD was designed as a smaller, compact, low-profile system offering greater operational flexibility and allowing users to maintain uncompromising focus on the mission objective.
Avon Protection’s patented PAPR technology enables users to seamlessly switch between an APR air-purifying respirator, a PAPR powered air-purifying respirator, and the option to transition to a short-duration SCBA self-contained breathing apparatus when working in highly contaminated or oxygen-deficient environments. A single hose connection across all modes keeps one side of the mask clean, ensuring unobstructed sightlines to personal weapons and improved situational awareness.
The system is offered with CS-PAPR SD cylinders ranging from 2 to 3 liters in capacity, providing up to 20 minutes of breathable air and ensuring protection in hazardous situations.
This short-duration system offers tactical users a compact, lightweight design, reducing weight and load while enabling longer time on target and more effective operation in physically constrained environments such as underground or enclosed spaces.
Built around a modular methodology, the CS-PAPR SD can be easily added to existing fielded systems, including FM53/4 APR and ST53 SCBA configurations, allowing users to build on existing equipment investments.
“The ability for users to change between protection levels depending on the threat is of particular benefit to tactical users who may face unknown elements in fast-changing threat scenarios and who need low-burden protection,” said Steve Elwell, President of Avon Protection. “With this streamlined Short Duration option, these users can alternate between the baseline negative-pressure filtered-air protection offered by their APR, moving up through PAPR and into positive-pressure short-duration breathing apparatus (SDBA), enabling maintained, uncompromised protection from threats.”
The new CS-PAPR SD is on display at Eurosatory 2026 at stand H229 in Hall 5a, together with Avon Protection’s full portfolio of CBRN protective equipment.
