On Thursday, May 28, 2026, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on social media a failed Iranian attempt to carry out a missile attack on Kuwaiti territory.

„At 10:17 p.m. ET on May 27, Iran launched a ballistic missile toward Kuwait that was successfully intercepted by Kuwaiti forces. This egregious ceasefire violation by the Iranian regime occurred hours after Iranian forces launched five one-way attack drones that posed a clear threat in and near the Strait of Hormuz. All drones were successfully intercepted by U.S. forces which also prevented a sixth drone launch from an Iranian ground control site in Bandar Abbas.
U.S. Central Command and regional partners remain vigilant and measured as we continue to defend our forces and interests from unjustified Iranian aggression.”

Earlier, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces confirmed that its forces and assets had repelled an Iranian drone and missile attack.
The Iranian attempt to attack Kuwait was condemned by the Gulf Cooperation Council and the authorities in Qatar.
This is another armed incident in the region, even though a ceasefire between the United States and Israel, on the one hand, and Iran, on the other, has formally been in effect since April 7. Earlier, on May 25, U.S. forces carried out airstrikes on targets in southern Iran in “self-defense.” Boats and anti-aircraft launchers belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were targeted.
It was the first clash since May 7, when U.S. forces retaliated after an Iranian attack on three Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers using missiles, drones, and small boats.
It should be recalled that a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports has been in place since April 13. On May 4, Operation Epic Fury ended and was replaced by Project Freedom. On the same day, Iran carried out a limited missile and drone attack on the United Arab Emirates. The following day, the operation was suspended.
Iran accused the United States of violating the agreement with attacks on merchant vessels: the container ship M/V Touska on April 20 and the tanker M/T Hasna on May 6. However, the sequence of accusations and attacks is disputed by both sides.
