A Russian cruise missile flew over Poland again

The Armed Forces Operational Command informed that one of the Russian cruise missiles used in the attack on Ukraine violated Polish airspace.

On Sunday, March 24, the Armed Forces Operational Command (DO RSZ) announced on social media that one of the Russian cruise missiles used in the attack on Ukraine violated Polish airspace.

The content of the press release from the Operational Command of the Armed Forces:

We inform that on March 24 at 4:23 AM, there was a violation of Polish airspace by one of the cruise missiles launched last night by the long-range aviation of the Russian Federation. The strikes were aimed at towns in western Ukraine.

The object entered Polish airspace at the altitude of Oserdów (Lublin Voivodeship) and remained there for 39 seconds. Throughout the entire flight, it was observed by military radar systems.

Last night, all necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace were activated. Polish and allied aviation, among other measures, were activated.

The Polish Armed Forces are continuously monitoring the situation in Ukrainian territory and remain in a state of readiness to ensure the safety of Polish airspace.

The Chief of the National Security Bureau (BBN) Jacek Siewiera wrote:

This morning, before dawn, there was a 39-second intrusion of a maneuvering missile into Polish airspace, which we discussed with [Deputy] Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz after 5 am. The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces was promptly informed. Information about the course of another incident of NATO border violation by Russian Federation combat assets was also conveyed to our allies.

Earlier, the Armed Forces Operational Command informed about the ongoing Russian attack on Ukrainian infrastructure:

The Armed Forces Operational Command observes tonight’s intensive activity of the long-range aviation of the Russian Federation, related to air-to-ground missile strikes on objects located on Ukrainian territory.

All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace have been activated, and DO RSZ is monitoring the situation closely.

We warn that Polish and allied aircraft have been activated, which may be associated with an increased level of noise, especially in the southeastern area of the country.

The previous violation of Polish airspace during a Russian missile attack from the Ukrainian border occurred on December 29, 2023.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced:

In connection with the violation of Polish airspace by a cruise missile launched by the long-range aviation of the Russian Federation, all procedures have been immediately activated. I am in contact with the President, Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief of the General Staff, and the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces. We are constantly monitoring the situation.

On March 24 at 08:30, a press briefing with the spokesperson of DO RSZ, Lt. Col. Jacek Goryszewski, regarding the incident of violation of Polish airspace by one of the maneuvering missiles launched by the long-range aviation of the Russian Federation at targets in Ukraine, will take place in front of the headquarters of the Armed Forces Operational Command at 2 Radiowa Street in Warsaw.

Ministry of National Defense:

Deputy Prime Minister W. Kosiniak-Kamysz: “In the morning hours, there was a massed attack by Russia on Ukraine. Due to the threat, all anti-aircraft defense systems in Poland have been activated. There was a violation of Polish airspace by a Russian missile. The object remained in Polish airspace for 39 seconds. It was monitored throughout the entire time. Polish and allied standby pairs were activated. All actions related to informing the key individuals in the country were also taken. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces for their 24/7 service for security.”

At the press conference, the Minister of National Defense stated that the Russian missile penetrated 1000-2000 meters deep into the country before returning to Ukraine.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland:

Poland will demand explanations from the Russian Federation regarding another violation of the country’s airspace.

Above all, we call on the Russian Federation to cease terrorist air attacks on the residents and territory of Ukraine and to end the war and address the internal problems of the country.

We express our condolences to the victims of Russian bombardments and their families.

The Republic of Poland condemns all forms of terrorism and attempts to revise borders through the use of force.

Another Russian air and missile attack on Ukraine

Press release of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine:

On the night of March 24, 2024, Russian occupiers launched 29 Ch-101/Ch-555 cruise missiles from 14 Tu-95MS strategic bombers (from the Engels air base area) and 28 Shahed-136/131 drones (from the Primorsko-Akhtarsk region in Krasnodar Krai and Cape Chauda in Crimea).

Anti-aircraft units of the Air Force, mobile anti-aircraft groups, and electronic warfare assets of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were involved in anti-aircraft defense.

As a result of the air battle, 43 aerial targets were destroyed: 18 Ch-101/Ch-555 cruise missiles and 25 Shahed-136/131 drones within the borders of the Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Sumy, Kyiv, Volyn, and Lviv oblasts.
