The Bundeswehr orders more Hensoldt Dynahawk fire control sights

The German Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has signed a contract with Hensoldt for the delivery of another batch of Dynahawk digital fire control systems.

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the German company Hensoldt announced that it had received an order from the Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr, BAAINBw) for the delivery of another batch of Dynahawk digital fire control systems.

The order includes deliveries this year and next year, with an option for additional units in 2026. The value of the order amounts to several million euros. Hensoldt has already supplied Dynahawk digital fire control systems in previous years.

With the ‘Dynahawk’, we are significantly increasing the first-hit probability on dynamic and distant targets of the deployed anti-tank weapons,” says Josef Reif, Sales Manager in the Sights division. “Thanks to the FLV in conjunction with the HENSOLDT IRV-MR night vision attachment, we can also guarantee operational capability at night.

The Dynahawk features a glass optical channel with a fixed 5.5x magnification and a laser rangefinder. The fire control sight’s ballistic computer, equipped with sensors for environmental perception (temperature, air pressure, angular velocity sensor), has several modes for engaging stationary and moving targets. It also automatically recognizes the loaded ammunition and performs the appropriate ballistic calculations.

The device enables the identification of a human-sized target at a distance of up to 1200 meters and a standard target such as a vehicle from a distance of 2400 meters. The sight is powered by four standard CR123 batteries. Including the batteries and mount, the Dynahawk weighs 2.2 kg.

The Dynahawk also has the option to set the timing of the projectile’s warhead detonation. This means that programmable ammunition can be used.

A unique feature of the Dynahawk is its interoperability with two weapon systems introduced into the Bundeswehr: the single-use anti-tank recoilless grenade launchers Wirkmittel 90 (Dynamit Nobel Defence RGW 90) and the single-use launchers for multi-purpose guided missiles leichte Wirkmittel 1800+ (MBDA Enforcer). The Dynahawk can be paired with these grenade launchers without changing its configuration.

The manufacturer also promises integration with the Saab Carl-Gustaf recoilless rifle and older single-use Panzerfaust 3 rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
