Both sides emphasized the importance of developing the Polish-Swedish partnership in response to current security challenges. In September, contracts were signed for the sale of Polish Piorun man-portable air-defense systems, and the SNEX Gotland Sentry military exercises were launched, aimed at testing troop mobility and refining collective defense procedures.
Deputy Minister Bejda emphasized that Poland views Sweden as a key partner in fostering stability and security in the Baltic Sea region. Joint initiatives in the defense industry and military training enhance the interoperability of the armed forces and strengthen ties between the two countries.
The previous meeting between representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and their Swedish counterparts took place on June 12 of this year at the Representative Center of the Ministry of National Defence in Helenów. Poland was represented by Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Zalewski, while the aforementioned Peter Sandwall represented Sweden.
On January 20, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz paid an official visit to Sweden, where he met with his counterpart, Pål Jonson. Eight days later, Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda visited Karlskrona for talks with Peter Sandwall. Both visits aimed to deepen Polish-Swedish relations, particularly in the area of military and defense cooperation.
Meanwhile, from April 1 to August 28, six Swedish Saab JAS 39C/D Gripen multirole aircraft and military personnel were stationed at the 22nd Air Base in Malbork as part of the NATO Air Policing mission.
It is also worth noting that on September 2 of this year, the opening day of the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, Polish Armaments Group signed a cooperation agreement with the Swedish company Saab Defence and Security.
