On Monday, 24 November 2025, Nitro-Chem Chemical Works (part of the Polish Armaments Group) and PROZAP (part of Grupa Azoty) signed an agreement for the preparation of design documentation for a new installation intended for the production of high-energy explosive materials, including RDX and, alternatively, HMX. The documentation prepared by PROZAP will serve as the basis for implementing the investment at the Nitro-Chem plant.
This is another step in implementing the provisions of the letter of intent signed earlier this year between Nitro-Chem and Grupa Azoty, under which both entities are strengthening their shared competencies in the design and construction of production installations for explosive materials. This project is of strategic importance for the development of the national defense industry and for reinforcing Nitro-Chem’s position as a global leader in the production of high-quality, high-energy explosive materials.
The investment will increase the plant’s production capacity and enhance the flexibility of technological processes, enabling simultaneous production of RDX and HMX as well as the necessary intermediate products. The new installation is a response to the growing demand from the defense industry and clients for high-energy explosive materials with the highest quality parameters.
“In line with our strategy, we will continue to expand the chemical materials segment for defense needs based on our own production capabilities as well as through partnership models, providing solutions that require a high level of engineering expertise,” said Dr. Eng. Paweł Bielski, Vice President of Grupa Azoty. “Our cooperation fits within the idea of local content – the participation of domestic entities in investment projects – and more broadly, in ensuring independence and security within the defense sector supply chain.”
The agreement signed is an important stage in the implementation of our strategy for technological development and production capabilities. Thanks to cooperation with PROZAP and the experience of Grupa Azoty, we will accelerate the design work and prepare a solid foundation for building the installation, which will strengthen Nitro-Chem’s position as a trusted supplier for the defense sector at home and abroad, said Arkadiusz Miszuk, President of Nitro-Chem.
Karol Przybyszewski, member of the Nitro-Chem Management Board, added:
“Cooperation with PROZAP, a company with extensive experience in designing installations for the chemical and defense industries, gives us the assurance that the documentation will be prepared with the highest diligence and in accordance with safety requirements. This is a key step toward building an installation of strategic importance for the development of Poland’s defense potential.”
Completion of the design stage will allow preparations to begin for construction of the installation, which responds to increased market demand for high-energy materials and supports efforts to strengthen national defense capabilities. The project is also expected to reinforce Nitro-Chem’s position as one of the leading manufacturers of explosive materials on the international market.
