On Thursday, 27 November 2025, a contract was signed for the delivery of the latest modernized, radar-guided, medium-range AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) air-to-air missiles for the Lockheed Martin F-35A Husarz multirole aircraft. The ceremony was attended by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Minister of Defence Paweł Bejda, and representatives of the Polish Armed Forces and the U.S. government.

As stated in the press release from the Armament Agency, the agreement concluded between the Governments of the Republic of Poland and the United States is valued at approximately 500 million USD and provides for deliveries of two hundreds of missiles in 2030–2031. The contractor for the agreement is the American corporation RTX.
“The last few days have been extremely important for Poland’s security. Yesterday, two key projects, selecting the country with which we will acquire underwater-operation capabilities and ordering three submarines, as well as the presentation and authorization by the Council of Ministers to submit a list of tasks we intend to implement under the SAFE program. Today in Nowy Glinnik, we accepted the first AW149 helicopter produced in Poland. And now I have the honor to announce another program, an investment, an agreement, a contract with our ally, the United States,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
Referring to cooperation with the United States, Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz stated during the conference that seven F-35A Husarz aircraft are already undergoing test flights performed by Polish pilots. Additional aircrew are currently in training, and next year the F-35A aircraft will arrive in Poland.
“I hope that next year 11 F-35 aircraft, at least 11, will be delivered to Poland. The purchase of missiles and the modernization of F-16 aircraft are all investments in the security of Polish airspace and Polish citizens. (…) The Armament Agency is currently working on 500 contracts. These are good contracts for Poland’s security,” added Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda.
It is worth noting that on 29 April of this year, the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) published the U.S. Department of State’s approval for the potential sale to Poland of a batch of 400 AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM missiles in a package worth up to 1.33 billion USD.
However, on 25 September of this year, during a meeting of the permanent subcommittee on the Polish defense industry and the technical modernization of the Polish Armed Forces within the Parliamentary National Defence Committee, information emerged about the steering group’s lack of approval for the purchase, which triggered a public reaction. On 2 October, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz assured that the contract would soon be signed and financed – and that is indeed what happened today.
The AIM-120D-3 is the most advanced variant of the AMRAAM missile family, developed under the F3R (Form, Fit, Function Refresh) program, which modernized the circuit boards in the missile’s guidance section and enabled continuous software enhancements. The latest AMRAAM is capable of countering peer-level threats, and its unofficial range is estimated at 120–180 km. The flight test program was completed on 10 July 2023.
So far, approval to purchase AIM-120D-3 AMRAAM missiles has been granted only to Denmark (203 units), the Kingdom of the Netherlands (226 units), Japan (1,200 units, though together with AIM-120C-8), Australia (200 units), Finland (403 units), and Germany (400 units). The United Kingdom and Canada have also expressed interest in these missiles.
As for the latest procurements of airborne weaponry for the Polish Air Force, in recent years Poland has acquired:
- 445 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM missiles for approx. 850 million USD net (3.36 billion PLN net / 4.133 billion PLN gross), out of 745 units approved;
- Over 200 AGM-88G AARGM-ER extended-range anti-radiation missiles for approx. 745 million USD net (2.999 billion PLN / 3.689 billion PLN), out of 360 units approved;
