On Monday, 1 December 2025, the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration FMV (Försvarets materielverk) under the Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden announced that it had placed an order with the Finnish company Patria Oyj valued at 1.5 billion SEK / 140 million EUR for the delivery of an additional batch of 94 Patria 6×6 armored personnel carriers under the international CAVS (Common Armored Vehicle System) program. The vehicles will receive the local designation Pansarterrängbil 300 (Patgb 300).

The order includes infantry carriers, command vehicles, and medical evacuation vehicles. It is also the third batch ordered, following the first 20 test vehicles (delivered from 27 October 2023 onward) and another 321 vehicles ordered on 20 March 2024. As a result, the total number of ordered vehicles has risen to 435, including 415 serial-production units (the Swedes previously declared plans to acquire around 400 vehicles – editor’s note). So far, 20 pre-production and 14 serial vehicles have been delivered. All deliveries will be completed by 2030.
“For a year and a half, the Armed Forces have been training with and evaluating the vehicles and are very satisfied. Thanks to onboard systems such as weapon stations and the fire control system that we have already delivered, we are now achieving full (combat) capability,” said Håkan Larsson, project manager at FMV (the vehicles are equipped with Protector RS4 remotely controlled weapon stations from the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, which can be armed with 12.7 mm or 7.62 mm machine guns depending on the configuration – editor’s note).
“Sweden’s decision to purchase an additional batch of Patria 6×6 vehicles represents a clear sign of confidence and the shared strength of the Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) program, which further reinforces interoperability and supply security among allied nations,” said Mats Warstedt, Vice President for Nordic Markets at Patria Oyj.
A Statement of Intent to join the CAVS program was signed in 2021, followed by a framework agreement in 2022. Then, on 17 April 2023, Sweden became a full member of the program.
As mentioned, the Patria 6×6 was developed for the international CAVS program, and the Finnish company Patria Oyj has already received orders for over 1,000 vehicles and delivered more than 250, including to Finland (with 161 vehicles ordered, designated XA-300), Latvia (over 256 vehicles ordered, with the first already in service), Germany (in January a proposal was submitted to procure 300 units, development of a 120 mm NEMO self-propelled mortar variant was commissioned, and in July a plan to acquire up to 3,500 units was announced), and Denmark (with 129 units ordered). In September, the United Kingdom and Norway joined the program.
Outside the program, Latvia funded the delivery of 42 vehicles to Ukraine. According to Patria’s statements from January 2023, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Japan have also expressed interest in the company’s modular 6×6 armored vehicle. In early September, Lithuania announced interest in joining the CAVS program.
The Patria 6×6 (manufacturer’s designation: Patria XA-300) is designed as the successor to the XA-180/185/200 Pasi 6×6 family and was first unveiled at the Eurosatory 2018 exhibition in Paris (it was also shown at MSPO in Kielce in 2019 in cooperation with Rosomak S.A.; it was presented again at this year’s MSPO). The vehicle was developed on the basis of a modified AMV 8×8 infantry carrier chassis with double-wishbone fully independent suspension and a new power-transmission system. It is powered by a 400-hp diesel engine with a maximum torque of 1,870 Nm and a 7-speed automatic transmission.
The crew consists of three soldiers, and the troop compartment accommodates ten. The driver controls two steering axles (optionally three) and has, among other equipment, a SENOP night-vision system and a rear-view camera. The operational range exceeds 700 km, and the maximum speed is over 100 km/h. The vehicle can climb slopes of 60% longitudinally and 30% laterally, traverse obstacles 0.6 m high, cross trenches 1.0 m wide, ford water obstacles 1.5 m deep, and optionally overcome water barriers.
The Swedish Army (Svenska Armén) currently operates 35 Patgb 180 (Sisu XA-180S) and 148 Patgb 203 A/B (XA-203S) 6×6 wheeled armored personnel carriers, as well as 113 Patgb 360 (Patria XA-360 AMV) 8×8 vehicles.
