A WB Group company, WB Centrum Kompozytów from Czechowice-Dziedzice, is the only Polish entity capable of producing structural panels for orbital platforms. This confirms WB Group’s capabilities in international cooperation and operations within the space sector.
WB Centrum Kompozytów has completed the first delivery of structural panels for the CHIME satellite, developed by Thales Alenia Space on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA). This is another delivery of primary structures for orbital platforms from Czechowice-Dziedzice, further confirming WB Group’s capabilities in international cooperation and activity within the space sector.
The structural panels manufactured by WB Centrum Kompozytów will be used for the CHIME (Copernicus Hyperspectral Imaging Mission for the Environment) observation satellite. The platform will be used to collect data for services related to agricultural and biodiversity management, as well as information on soil properties.
“CHIME is another satellite constructed using structural panels produced by WB Centrum Kompozytów for Thales Alenia Space. Previously, we supplied structures for the geostationary Spacebus Neo satellite family developed by this company, which are utilized by global telecommunications operators,” said Bartłomiej Płonka, CEO of WB Centrum Kompozytów.
This Silesian company belonging to WB Group is the only Polish entity with the expertise to perform advanced work in creating structural panels for orbital platforms. WB Group’s capabilities in this sector are confirmed by numerous successful launches of the structures it has manufactured into space.
“Under the agreement with Thales Alenia Space, we will produce structural panels for two satellites as part of the CHIME mission. The new platform will be placed in geostationary orbit. WB Centrum Kompozytów is responsible for manufacturing primary structures equipped with necessary components, including elements for thermal control in space conditions,” added the CEO of the Czechowice-Dziedzice facility.
WB Centrum Kompozytów has acquired unique competencies on the Polish market thanks to an extensive technology transfer program from Thales Alenia Space. The program has been ongoing for several years. The production of additional structural panels for the CHIME mission is tangible proof that the technology transfer has been successful and is delivering mutual benefits.
WB Centrum Kompozytów serves as WB Group’s center of competence for the development, manufacturing, and testing of advanced composite structures. The company also specializes in the production of structural panels for spacecraft construction. It is continuously increasing WB Group’s manufacturing potential in the field of unmanned systems.
