On Thursday, December 5, 2024, representatives of the Cyberspace Defense Forces Command (DK WOC) and the gas transmission system operator Gaz-System signed a cooperation agreement. The collaboration between the two entities aims to enhance the cybersecurity of both the Republic of Poland and Gaz-System.
“Cybersecurity is not only a technological challenge but also a crucial element in protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring national security. Critical infrastructure, such as gas transmission systems, holds strategic importance for both the functioning of the state and the conduct of military operations. Our cooperation with Gaz-System is another step toward more effective protection of these resources. Through the exchange of information and experiences, we will jointly enhance our ability to respond to cyber threats. This collaboration not only strengthens national security but also lays a solid foundation for further development of competencies in this field,” said Major General Karol Molenda, Commander of the Cyberspace Defense Force.
As part of the cooperation, both entities will exchange experiences and information about current threats. In the event of a cybersecurity incident, they will share data enabling threat detection and mitigation of the incident’s effects. Both the Cyberspace Defense Forces and Gaz-System operate 24/7 CSIRT teams (Computer Security Incident Response Teams).
“In our organization, which manages gas infrastructure critical to the economy, we have built the necessary competencies and maintain effective cybersecurity services. However, no organization in cyberspace is an isolated island. Effective protection of IT systems requires collaboration, information sharing, and the exchange of experiences. This agreement will facilitate threat identification as well as the development of competencies for both employees and the company in this area,” emphasized Adam Bryszewski, Vice President of Gaz-System.
The signed agreement is a significant step in establishing a systemic approach to the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure in Poland. Through the collaboration between the Cyberspace Defense Forces and Gaz-System, resilience to cyber threats will be enhanced, and competencies in protecting the state’s key assets will be further developed. Both parties expressed confidence that the partnership will yield tangible benefits for national security and the gas sector.
Gaz-System is a strategic company for the Polish economy. It is responsible for the transmission of natural gas, manages Poland’s most critical gas pipelines as well as the Baltic Pipe offshore pipeline, and owns the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście.
