On Tuesday, 2 December 2025, the American company Textron Systems Corporation (part of Textron Inc.) announced the sale of a single Ripsaw M3 unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) to the Swedish government. The delivery will be carried out in cooperation with its subsidiary, Howe & Howe Technologies.

Thus, Sweden will become the first export user of this platform in Europe. The M3 model is part of Textron Systems’ Ripsaw family of vehicles, designed as a rugged and reliable ground robot that uses MOSA (Modular Open Systems Architecture) standards to simplify the integration of new payloads, control systems, and autonomy packages.
Building on its reputation as a global leader in unmanned, robotic, and autonomous land, air, and maritime vehicles, Textron Systems continues to invest in the design and development of a highly scalable and configurable family of ground robots that offer exceptional transportability, mission flexibility, and battlefield mobility. The Ripsaw M3 provides soldiers with confidence thanks to its powerful hybrid-electric powertrain, high ground clearance, and composite rubber track system, delivering unmatched off-road mobility and operational endurance of more than 180 miles (300 km).
“The RIPSAW M3 is ideally suited for operations in the region because of its high performance in challenging climates and terrains,” said Vice President of Programs, Sara Willett. “Textron Systems is excited to be a trusted partner to European customers and remains focused on investing in trusted robotic platforms that enhance user safety and mission success.”
With decades of proven performance and more than three million hours of unmanned operations across air, land, and sea domains, Textron Systems continually leverages its expertise to meet the demands of modern warfare.
It is also worth noting that on 14 March of this year, the Italian company Iveco Defence Vehicles was selected by the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration FMV (Försvarets materielverk), under the multi-purpose ground vehicle technology demonstrator program DAMM (Demonstrator Autonom Mångfunktionell Markplattform), with its unmanned robotic platform VIKING.
The DAMM program is part of the broader FoT Marksystem initiative in cooperation with the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI – Totalförsvarets forskningsinstitut). It envisions the acquisition of four different unmanned ground vehicles between 2024 and 2026. Earlier, on 16 December 2024, FMV ordered the Mission Master SP unmanned vehicle from Rheinmetall AG for testing, valued at EUR 488,536, as part of the initiative.
As for the Ripsaw vehicle family, earlier under the U.S. Army’s RCV-M (Robotic Combat Vehicle – Medium) program, Textron Systems Corporation, Howe & Howe Technologies, and FLIR Systems –forming Team Ripsaw – delivered the Ripsaw M5 combat variant, armed with a 30 mm Northrop Grumman ATK XM813 automatic cannon and anti-tank guided missiles.
