On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, the 3rd Regional Logistics Base from Kraków (3. RBLog.) announced that its Aviation Technology Division based in Kutno had signed a contract worth PLN 28,224,168.70 with PZL-Świdnik — a company owned by the Italian Leonardo Group — for the overhaul of Mi-2, W-3 Sokół, and SW-4 Puszczyk helicopters in 2025.

The contract covers the overhaul (major repair) of technical material resources (equipment) for Mi-2, W-3, and SW-4 helicopters in 2025. Negotiations were finalized on January 28, and the contract was signed on March 21.
According to the announcement, a negotiated procedure without prior publication was used, as the contracting authority’s market analysis of potential contractors determined that the only economic operator authorized to perform the work was PZL-Świdnik.
The entity is the sole owner of the technical documentation and holds exclusive rights for the repair of the products covered by the contract, in accordance with the list of manuals and documents applicable to the major overhaul of all variants of W-3 and W-3A helicopters, as well as the SW-4 and Mi-2. Furthermore, it possesses the necessary expertise and trained personnel capable of carrying out the overhaul (major repair) of the contracted equipment, and no alternative or substitute solution exists that would allow for the execution of the task in question.

Helicopters of the above-mentioned types will be gradually phased out of service due to the depletion of their technical lifespans, the introduction of replacements (such as the 32 ordered Leonardo AW149 multirole support helicopters and the planned 24 training helicopters as part of an integrated training system for combat helicopter pilots), or the lack of feasibility for modernization.
