On Monday, 17 November 2025, Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the damage to the railway tracks in two locations on the Warsaw–Lublin line was the result of acts of sabotage.
“Unfortunately, the worst suspicions have been confirmed. On the Warsaw–Lublin line (near the village of Mika), an act of sabotage took place. An explosive device destroyed a section of the railway track. Emergency services and the prosecutor’s office are working at the site. On the same line, closer to Lublin, damage has also been detected,” the Polish Prime Minister wrote on social media.
“Blowing up a railway track on the Warsaw–Lublin line is an unprecedented act of sabotage directed against the security of the Polish state and its citizens. An investigation is under way. As in previous similar cases, we will catch the perpetrators, regardless of who is behind them,” he added.
“The Internal Security Agency is working in cooperation with the police, the prosecutor’s office, and railway services at the site of the sabotage on the Warsaw–Lublin rail line. The latest findings from the ongoing activities have been presented to Prime Minister Donald Tusk,” added Tomasz Siemoniak, Minister–Coordinator of Special Services.
“Activities by emergency services and the prosecutor’s office are ongoing in the village of Mika (Garwolin County). Unfortunately, there is no doubt that we are dealing with an act of sabotage. Another section of this strategic rail line, where track damage occurred, is also being examined,” wrote Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that the military has been deployed to inspect the rail line:
“Units subordinate to the Ministry of National Defence are working closely together to clarify the act of sabotage on the tracks near Garwolin. We are conducting coordinated operations with the 2nd Lublin Territorial Defence Brigade, particularly with the 25th Light Infantry Battalion from Zamość. The military will inspect a section of approximately 120 km (along the railway traction) running toward the border in Hrubieszów.”
To recall, according to information from the Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Radom, the driver of a train running on the Warsaw–Dęblin line reported irregularities in the railway infrastructure near the village of Życzyn, Garwolin County, close to the Mika station. Initial inspection of the tracks revealed damage to a section of the rail, and today it was confirmed that the cause was an explosion, and that another instance of track damage was discovered further southeast on the same line.

UPDATE
The Ministry of the Interior and Administration presented the findings to date during a press conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland:
Over the past weekend, damage to the tracks was recorded in two locations on the Warsaw–Lublin line, resulting in two trains being brought to a halt. The findings of the security services indicate acts of sabotage. Near the village of Mika, a section of rail was blown up, while near Puławy the overhead line was damaged and a special metal clamp was installed on the rail, intended to cause a train derailment.

“We have secured extensive evidence that will allow us to quickly identify the perpetrators of this shameful act of sabotage,” said Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński during a press conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The conference was preceded by a meeting at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration with the participation of the ministers of interior and administration, justice, the minister–coordinator of special services, and the agencies responsible for state security. The incidents on the railway will be handled by a task force composed of representatives of the prosecutor’s office, the Central Bureau of Investigation Police (CBŚP), and the Internal Security Agency (ABW).
Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński emphasized that the security services had been involved in clarifying the circumstances of both incidents from the very beginning.
“We were dealing with two acts of sabotage. One of them, in the village of Mika in Garwolin County, has already been confirmed. In the second case—very likely—the services are carrying out further determinations. Yesterday, at around 7:30 a.m., the driver of one of the trains noticed damage to the railway track and immediately brought the train to a stop. From the early morning hours, officers of the Police, the Internal Security Agency, and other state services were working on site. All actions are coordinated,” said Minister Kierwiński during the press conference at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwiński reported that the first information about a loud bang in an unspecified area was reported to the Police by a local resident on Saturday at around 10 p.m. A patrol was dispatched, but it did not identify the location of the incident. Polish security services resumed operations on Sunday morning and are conducting them to apprehend both the perpetrators and the masterminds behind the sabotage.
“We have secured extensive evidence that will allow us to quickly identify the perpetrators of this shameful act of sabotage. Recordings from nearby surveillance cameras and other key evidence have been collected. On the same railway line, two further incidents were recorded: damage to approximately 60 metres of overhead power lines and, several hundred metres further on, a metal clamp placed on the tracks. Both of these incidents are now being thoroughly analyzed by the security services,” said Minister Marcin Kierwiński.
Special Task Force Leading the Investigation
A task force appointed by the Prosecutor General, composed of experts from various institutions, is working on the case.
“The team includes prosecutors as well as officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation Police (CBŚP) and the Internal Security Agency (ABW). Detailed information regarding the masterminds and the course of events will be disclosed once further hypotheses are verified,” said Minister Marcin Kierwiński.
The Minister of the Interior and Administration emphasized that representatives of the government, security services, and the prosecutor’s office will communicate only confirmed information.
“From the very first minutes after the incident was reported, all state services were on site and worked in full coordination. The area was secured and sealed off by the police in order to precisely identify every potential trace and determine the perpetrators as quickly as possible. The police, special services, and the prosecutor’s office are conducting joint operations to ensure that all findings proceed as efficiently and effectively as possible,” added Minister Marcin Kierwiński.
Safety as the Priority
The Minister–Coordinator of Special Services, Tomasz Siemoniak, stressed that the safety of Polish citizens is the state’s top priority.
“The sabotage case is, for all of us responsible for the security of the state, an absolutely top-priority task. Our safety in the streets, on trains, on the roads—that is our priority. We will do everything necessary to ensure it,” said the Minister–Coordinator of Special Services.
In response to the act of sabotage, PKP, the Railway Security Guard (SOK), and the justice system were also engaged. Minister Waldemar Żurek announced that the National Prosecutor’s Office has already launched proceedings in the case.
“Preparatory proceedings have already been initiated. They are being conducted by the Mazovian Branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office. A special team has been appointed to coordinate the work: two very experienced prosecutors, a representative of the CBŚP, and the ABW. If the threat is proven, acts of sabotage and attempted causing of a transport disaster are punishable by a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment, up to and including life imprisonment,” stated the Minister of Justice.
Minister Dariusz Klimczak assured that all procedures in the face of the sabotage incident functioned properly.
“All procedures worked. There was a warning about an irregularity on the track, attention was drawn to track observation, and a request for special caution was issued. Polish State Railways, together with the Railway Security Guard, intensified inspections. Repairs to the tracks near the Puławy–Azoty station are already under way, and we are preparing to repair the remaining sections. Our services will not allow themselves to be intimidated,” emphasized the Minister of Infrastructure.
