On Thursday, January 30, 2025, a press briefing was held at the Ministry of National Defense with Secretary of State Paweł Bejda and Deputy Head of the Armament Agency, Brig. Gen. Dr. Eng. Michał Marciniak. The briefing focused on defense contracts signed with the South Korean side.

“In response to emerging reports and articles in the Polish media claiming that Poland is not negotiating contracts, is breaking agreements, and is not in discussions with the Korean side, I want to firmly emphasize that this is not true. I categorically refute such rumors. These are fake news. I want to inform you that the Polish media are basing their reports on certain media claims from January 8 (December 9, 2024 – editor’s note), which appeared in the Korean public space. (…) We are conducting talks with the Koreans. We also have confirmation from our national defense attaché in Korea that the articles appearing in the Korean media are simply fake news,” said Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda at the press conference.
“The only question is whether such articles are, for example, influenced by North Korea, as it seems to be cooperating with Russia—they are interested in stirring unrest in the public space, including among Polish and Korean public opinion. It is also unclear whether the articles appearing in South Korea are a result of the difficult Korean political situation and are being used for domestic political purposes. I want to reassure our public. We are negotiating Korean contracts, and these contracts are being executed. In fact, I can say that, for example, deliveries of K9 self-propelled howitzers last year exceeded 100% of the contracted amount, meaning that Korea delivered more equipment than we had originally contracted for 2024,” said Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda (referring to the December shipment of additional K2 tanks, K9 howitzers, and Homar-K launchers).
The Deputy Minister responsible for armament procurement for the Polish Army assured that defense cooperation between Poland and South Korea is progressing smoothly.
Earlier that day, Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Janusz Sejmej issued a press statement:
“In response to reports in the Korean media, it is untrue that Poland has suspended defense contracts with this country.
The existing contracts are being executed without disruption, and none have been terminated. New contracts are continuously being negotiated with full care for our taxpayers’ money. No visit to South Korea was planned for December of last year. Given the ongoing negotiations, we will not succumb to any pressure aimed at accelerating the signing of new defense contracts. These agreements must ensure Poland’s security interests and cooperation with our defense industry.”
It is worth noting that on January 9, 2025, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) under the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Korea issued a statement regarding local media reports, declaring that claims of a crisis in Poland’s defense procurement program are unfounded.
A denial was also published by South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace, the supplier of K9 Thunder howitzers and Homar-K (K239 Chunmoo) multiple rocket launchers.
