Polish military engaged Russian drones over Poland

During a nighttime Russian drone attack on Ukraine, several Russian UAVs violated Polish airspace, leading to the decision to shoot them down.

On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, September 9–10, 2025, Russia carried out yet another drone attack on targets in Ukraine. According to the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command (DO RSZ), “…an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects took place. This is an act of aggression that posed a real threat to the safety of our citizens.

On the order of the Armed Forces Operational Commander, defensive procedures were immediately activated. Polish and allied assets were monitoring several objects by radar, and with regard to those that could pose a threat, the Operational Commander made the decision to neutralize them. Some of the drones that entered our airspace were shot down. Searches are ongoing to locate possible crash sites of these objects. The Operational Command continues to monitor the situation, while Polish and allied forces and assets remain fully ready for further action.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz:

An operation to neutralize objects that violated the borders of the Republic of Poland is underway. The President and the Prime Minister have been informed. All services are in action. We ask everyone to follow the announcements of the Polish Armed Forces and the Police. Aircraft have used weapons against hostile objects. We are in constant contact with NATO command. The Territorial Defense Forces (WOT) have been activated to conduct ground searches for the downed drones. We ask for calm and for the public to share only official communications from the military and state services. If fragments of these objects are found, please do not approach them and notify the police.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk:

An operation is underway in response to multiple violations of Polish airspace. The military has used weapons against the objects. I am in constant contact with the President and the Minister of Defence. I have received a direct report from the Operational Commander.

Deputy Minister of National Defence Cezary Tomczyk:

In light of the circulating reports, I ask that only information provided by the military and state services be shared further. Prime Minister Donald Tusk is present at the site of operations. We have received a report from Operational Commander General Klisz, who is directly responsible for the protection of Polish airspace.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk:

I have received a report from the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces on the downing of drones that violated our airspace and could have posed a threat. The operation is ongoing.

Statement of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces:

For the sake of public safety, we appeal to residents: if downed drones or their fragments are found, do not approach, touch, or move them. Such elements may remain dangerous and must be inspected by explosive ordnance disposal teams. We ask that every finding be reported by calling the emergency number 112 or the nearest Police station. This will allow the services to secure the area quickly and effectively.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk:

I have informed the NATO Secretary General about the current situation and the actions we have taken regarding the objects that violated our airspace. We remain in constant contact.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki:

From the moment the violations of Polish airspace occurred, I have been in constant contact with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of National Defense, and the top commanders of the Polish Armed Forces. I took part in a briefing at the Operational Command of the Armed Forces. At the National Security Bureau, I will soon lead a briefing to be attended by the head of government. The security of our Homeland is the highest priority and requires close cooperation.

Territorial Defence Forces (WOT) Command:

“WOT READINESS ALERT”

In connection with the violation of Polish airspace and the activation of ground search-and-rescue teams, a shortened reporting time has been introduced for Territorial Defense Forces soldiers.

WOT soldiers may receive an immediate call-up: within 6 hours in the Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, Lubelskie, and Podkarpackie voivodeships; within 12 hours in the Pomorskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Łódzkie, Świętokrzyskie, and Małopolskie voivodeships; no call-up within less than 24 hours is planned in the remaining voivodeships.

We ask for calm and for the public to share only official communications from the military and state services. If fragments of objects are found, please do not approach them and notify the police.

At 5:40 a.m. in the village of Czosnówka (Biała County), police officers confirmed the discovery of a damaged drone. The relevant services have been notified. Official proceedings are ongoing.

Government spokesman Adam Szłapka:

Armed Forces Operational Command

Operations of Polish and allied aircraft related to the violations of Polish airspace have concluded.

Searches and the localization of possible crash sites of the objects that violated Polish airspace are ongoing.

With citizens’ safety in mind, we appeal: in the event of observing an unidentified object or its debris, do not approach, touch, or move it. Such elements may remain hazardous and contain dangerous materials. They must be strictly inspected by the appropriate services.

We ask that all signals be reported to the emergency number 112 or to the nearest Police unit. This will allow the services to quickly and effectively secure the area.

We thank the NATO Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) and the Royal Netherlands Air Force, whose F-35 fighters helped ensure safety in Polish skies tonight.

The Polish Armed Forces continuously monitor the situation in Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

Press Release of the Ministry of National Defence

As a result of today’s attack by the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, there was an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects. This was an act of aggression that posed a real threat to the safety of our citizens. The most threatened regions were the Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, and Lubelskie provinces.

On the order of the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, defensive procedures were immediately activated. Polish and allied radar systems tracked several objects that violated Polish airspace. With regard to those that could have posed a threat, the Operational Commander made the decision to neutralize them. Drones that could have posed a threat were shot down. Actions are ongoing to search for and identify possible crash sites of these objects, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz reported.

At present, the operations of Polish and allied aircraft related to the violations of Polish airspace have concluded. Searches and the localization of possible crash sites of the objects that violated Polish airspace are ongoing.

National Security Bureau:

The meeting convened by the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, at the National Security Bureau has concluded.

Extraordinary meeting of the government:

Polsat News:

A Russian drone struck a residential house in the village of Wyryki (Włodawa County) in the Lublin province.

The Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on social media that since 5:00 p.m. yesterday, Russian forces launched 458 combat assets, mainly targeting the northern, western, and central parts of the country, of which the majority – 413 – were shot down.

The Russians used:

  • 415 unmanned aerial vehicles of the Geran/Shahed type (over 250) and drone decoys of various types (including Gerbera), launched from Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Oryol, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Chauda in occupied Crimea;
  • 42 cruise/air-launched missiles (Kh-101/Kalibr/Kh-59[69]) from the Saratov region and the Black Sea;
  • 1 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missile from the Voronezh region.

The attack was repelled by the Air Force, air defense missile units, electronic warfare (EW) and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile air defense groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, by 9:00 a.m. today, 413 aerial targets were shot down or forced to crash, including 386 drones and 27 cruise/air-launched missiles. Earlier, 16 missiles and 21 drones had been recorded hitting 17 locations.

At least 8 enemy drones crossed Ukraine’s state border in the direction of the Republic of Poland.

Advanced Protection Systems S.A.:

Advanced Protection Systems S.A. announces that it possesses proven technology and ready-to-deploy solutions for detecting, tracking, and neutralizing aerial threats, including Shahed-type drones that violated the airspace of the Republic of Poland last night.

Our systems have been verified in practical use in Ukraine, where they consistently and effectively counter existing drone threats, including FPV, Shahed, and Geran. APS solutions are also cost-effective and characterized by high precision in both the detection and neutralization of unmanned aerial vehicles.

The company is prepared to swiftly deliver and implement its solutions to strengthen the defense of Poland’s borders and ensure the security of the Republic of Poland’s airspace.

Head of the Presidential Office of International Policy, Marcin Przydacz: “At this moment, a meeting is taking place at the National Security Bureau with President Karol Nawrocki, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and ministers. The main source of information here is the Polish Armed Forces. Up to a dozen drones penetrated Polish airspace. As the Minister of Defense indicated, some of them had to be shot down. We still have to wait for a full picture of the situation. The President has no information that any of our compatriots have been injured or that specific damage has occurred.

Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland: “President Karol Nawrocki is being kept regularly informed about the situation regarding the violations of Polish airspace.

Ministry of Interior and Administration:

During the night, incidents involving foreign drones occurred. Those objects that posed a threat were shot down.

Uniformed services are conducting operations in the Podlaskie, Mazowieckie, and Lubelskie provinces.

Services under the Ministry of Interior and Administration, primarily the Police, Border Guard, and State Fire Service, are on heightened alert. The Ministry’s leadership remains in constant contact with the Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. We are cooperating with the military in searching for and securing the crash sites of downed drones; all our activities are coordinated.

The Operational Command of the Armed Forces has reported the conclusion of Polish and allied air operations. We appeal to residents to remain calm, follow official state service announcements, and not give in to emotions, manipulation, or disinformation.

We urge the public not to approach, touch, or move debris of unidentified objects, but to report such findings to the uniformed services.

National Security Bureau: “The briefing with the participation of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki has concluded.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “In connection with the dramatic night in Polish skies, I have convened an extraordinary meeting of the government.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “Last night, Polish airspace was violated by a large number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “The procedures were implemented correctly, the decision-making process was flawless, and the threat was effectively eliminated thanks to the decisive actions of commanders, soldiers, and our allies. I am very grateful for that.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “We are most likely dealing with a large-scale provocation. We remain in constant contact with our allies, including the NATO Secretary General, in order to be able to respond to such threats in the future as effectively as we did last night.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “This is the first case of Russian drones being shot down over the territory of a NATO state, and that is why all our allies are treating this situation very seriously.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “We have not recorded any casualties. Searches for the wreckage of the downed drones are ongoing. We are gradually reopening airports that had temporarily suspended all flights due to the operational needs of our airmen.

Government Information Center: The extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers is attended by:

  • Major General SG Robert Bagan – Chief Commander of the Border Guard
  • Brigadier General Jarosław Chojnacki – Operational Command of the Armed Forces
  • General Wiesław Kukuła – Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces
  • General Inspector Marek Boroń – Chief Commander of the Police
  • Brigadier General Wojciech Kruczek – Chief Commander of the State Fire Service”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “I am in constant contact with the President and the commanders of all services. We are continuously discussing the consequences of these dramatic events and preparing for future challenges.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “This situation clearly proves that, alongside investments, equally important are full coordination of actions and simple procedures that guarantee a swift and decisive response to any threat.

STOP DISINFORMATION!

“Rely only on official communications from the military and state services!”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “We are ready to repel such provocations and attacks. We are well prepared. The situation is serious. Today, no one can have any doubts that we must be ready for various scenarios.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “I can already say that we have passed this first test – our military, our allies, and the procedures created for such situations all worked as they should.

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz: “Both Polish and allied procedures worked. I would like to thank above all those who carry out this mission continuously. This stage has ended, but service in the armed forces and all allied obligations, of course, continue. I especially thank the pilots of the Air Force, the officers of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and the Dutch pilots.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister: “I want to say clearly: there is no reason to panic. We will regularly provide information about the situation in Polish skies and at the border.

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz: “Polish airspace was repeatedly violated. The Operational Commander of the Armed Forces made the decision to use defensive measures. I strongly ask everyone to exercise caution and follow the official announcements. This is also the moment when the wreckage of the downed drones must be secured – therefore, if anyone observes such debris, we ask that the information be reported to the services, especially the Police. They will know what needs to be done.

Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz: “This is a large-scale provocation. I have just concluded further talks and consultations with our allies. I informed the defense ministers of the E5 Group, the so-called Big Five – the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy – as well as the new Prime Minister of France. I am in contact with the defense ministers of Finland, Sweden, Latvia, and Lithuania – all of our allies. Of course, we are in constant contact with the North Atlantic Alliance, the entire NATO structure.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky:

Rescuers are now working in Volochysk, Khmelnytskyi region, where the Russians struck an ordinary sewing workshop with a missile. As of now, three people are reported injured. This is just one of the sites of today’s massive Russian attack: about 415 drones of various types and more than 40 cruise and ballistic missiles. Fifteen of our regions were under attack. Sadly, one person was killed as a result of shelling in the Zhytomyr region. My condolences to the family and loved ones.

Moscow always pushes the boundaries of what is possible, and if it does not encounter a strong reaction, it remains at the new level of escalation. Today there was another step of escalation – Russian-Iranian “shaheds” operated in the airspace of Poland, in NATO airspace. It was not just one “shahed” that could be called an accident, but at least eight strike drones aimed toward Poland.

An extremely dangerous precedent for Europe. Whether there will be further steps depends entirely on the coordination and strength of the response. The Russians must feel the consequences. Russia must feel that the war cannot be expanded and will have to be ended.

The pause in sanctions has gone on far too long. Delaying restrictions on Russia and its accomplices only means increasing the brutality of the strikes. Sufficient weapons are needed to deter Russia. A strong response is needed – and it can only be a joint response by all partners: Ukraine, Poland, all Europeans, the United States. I thank everyone who is helping.

Press Release of the Minister of National Defence

A short while ago, I concluded further talks and consultations with our allies. I informed the defense ministers of the E5, the so-called Big Five – the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy – as well as the new Prime Minister of France. I am in contact with the defense ministers of Finland, Sweden, Latvia, and Lithuania – all of our allies. Of course, we are in constant contact with the North Atlantic Alliance, the entire NATO structure,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference regarding the unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects.

In connection with the nighttime violation of Polish airspace, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is returning from London, where he was to take part in the meeting of E5 defense ministers. On Wednesday, September 10, he provided at a press conference the most important information regarding the violations of Polish airspace and the actions taken by the Polish Armed Forces and allies.

It was a very busy night for the Polish Armed Forces, for all services, for the pilots, for the ground personnel, for all elements of Poland’s security system. From yesterday evening, practically right after my arrival in London, in contact with General Klisz, who made the decisions to activate all forces and assets, throughout the night all systems and all resources available for the security of the Polish state needed for this operation were activated. Both Polish and allied procedures worked. I would like to thank above all those who carry out this mission continuously. This stage has ended, but service in the armed forces and all allied obligations of course continue. I especially thank the pilots of the Air Force, the officers of the Royal Netherlands Air Force, and the Dutch pilots,” said the Minister of National Defence.

I thank all our allies who are providing support, and of course the Polish Armed Forces. We are in control of the situation. This is a moment that requires cooperation from us. From the very beginning, the highest authorities of the state – the President, the Prime Minister – were kept informed. This is natural, and this is how we will continue to act. There is excellent information exchange between the Ministry of National Defense and the National Security Bureau, and vice versa – between the BBN and the structures of the ministry as well as the structures of the Polish Armed Forces. Polish airspace was repeatedly violated. The Operational Commander made the decision to use defensive measures. I strongly ask everyone to be cautious and to follow official announcements. This is also the moment when the wreckage of drones downed in the strikes must be secured – therefore, if anyone observes them, we ask that the information be passed on to the services, especially the Police. They will know what needs to be done,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.

A Gerbera decoy drone was found in Mniszków, Łódź Voivodeship:

Another wreck was found in a cemetery in the village of Cześniki, Lublin Voivodeship:

IMPORTANT. Following the conclusion of Polish and allied air operations related to the violations of Polish airspace, we inform that the appeal to remain at home is lifted. At present, there is no need to limit residents’ activities.

Please follow the official announcements of the services and state authorities.

National Security Bureau: “Media statement by the President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, together with the Head of the National Security Bureau, Sławomir Cenckiewicz, and General Andrzej Rzeczkowski.”

President of the Republic of Poland: “The operation in Polish airspace has concluded. I was informed about the entire situation at around 3 a.m. I remain in constant contact with the Ministry of National Defense, General Klisz, and General Kukuła. After analyses, I decided to visit the Operational Command of the Armed Forces, where General Klisz presented me with comprehensive information. I also met there with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and decided to convene a special meeting at the National Security Bureau at 6:30 a.m. During this meeting, we discussed the possibility of invoking Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty. This discussion also concerned the necessity of strengthening Poland’s counter-drone defense. I received a report from General Kukuła, who stated that within 48 hours the Polish Armed Forces will have a full analysis of what happened.

President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki: The information that within 48 hours we will have full details of what happened in Poland prompted me to decide to convene the National Security Council within the same 48 hours. During the session we must already have complete information in order to respond appropriately to the situation.

Head of the National Security Bureau Sławomir Cenckiewicz: “Our entire defense system worked. The Operational Command kept us informed in real time. Cooperation between institutions is functioning in an exemplary manner.

I appeal to everyone to rely on communications issued by the Armed Forces Operational Command and state institutions.

Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia:
I have changed the schedule of the sitting. At 10:00 a.m., Prime Minister Donald Tusk will present to the Sejm information on the violation of the Republic of Poland’s airspace and the actions taken last night by the Polish and allied Armed Forces. If the goal of our adversaries is to destabilize the situation in Poland, then all state institutions and political forces must cooperate all the more closely, demonstrating unity and thwarting their plans.”

President of the Republic of Poland: “Throughout the entire process, I remained in regular contact with the Presidents of our allied states and the NATO Secretary General. This is an unprecedented moment in NATO’s history. I thank all Polish soldiers, pilots, and our allies. The mechanisms worked. We have confirmed that within NATO, thanks to the Polish soldier, the Polish pilot, and our allies, we are capable of responding to such situations.

Government Information Center statement:

Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski:

In connection with the unprecedented violation of Polish airspace, since the early morning hours the services responsible for cybersecurity have been intensively monitoring the situation and are in a heightened state of readiness.”

An extraordinary meeting of the Joint Cybersecurity Operations Center has been convened to review the threat landscape and issue any necessary recommendations for further action.”

I have also decided to introduce additional measures regarding the monitoring, identification, and counteraction of disinformation. Hostile services seeking to intensify their activities in the information sphere must expect a firm response.”

At present, the state’s critical infrastructure in cyberspace is operating without any disruptions. Further communications will be issued on an ongoing basis.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk: “Russian drones violated Polish airspace last night. All those posing a threat were shot down. Thanks to our soldiers, pilots, and allies, the procedures worked flawlessly.

Prime Minister Tusk in Sejm

Prime Minister: “Yesterday at 10:06 p.m., the military recorded the start of a massive Russian air attack on Ukraine using drones and missiles. The Operational Command increased readiness under Operation ‘Eastern Aurora,’ activating ground systems, early warning aircraft, and cooperating with NATO allies.

Prime Minister: “Two F-35s, two F-16s, and Mi-24, Mi-17, and Black Hawk helicopters were dispatched to the anticipated area of operations. The first airspace violation was recorded at around 11:30 p.m., the last at 6:30 a.m., which shows the scale of an operation that lasted the entire night. Nineteen violations were recorded, and the data will be updated and confirmed by the Chief of the General Staff.

Prime Minister: “For the first time, drones violating Polish airspace came directly from Belarus, not from Ukraine.

Prime Minister: “Airports in Modlin, Warsaw, Rzeszów, and Lublin were temporarily closed during the night to ensure freedom of operation for military aviation and to prepare allied support. All airports have now resumed operations.

Prime Minister: “I appeal to all residents of Poland: any suspicious object that may resemble drone debris poses a potential threat. Do not approach or touch such objects—immediately notify the relevant services.

Prime Minister: “At this moment, we have one very good piece of news. There is no information that anyone has been injured or killed as a result of the Russian action.

Prime Minister: “Allied consultations have also begun on actions aimed at strengthening the air defense of Alliance forces over our territory. From the very first moments of these dramatic events, I have been in contact with both the President and the Minister of National Defence.

Ursula von der Leyen: “Today, we have seen a reckless and unprecedented violation of Poland and Europe’s airpace by more than 10 Russian Shahed drones. Europe stands in full solidarity with Poland.”

Volodymyr Zelensky:

More information is coming in about the intrusion of Russian attack drones into Polish territory. As of now, it’s known about 8 drones. Increasing evidence indicates that this movement, this direction of strike, was no accident. There have been previous incidents of individual Russian drones crossing the border and traveling a short distance into neighboring countries. But this time, we are recording a much larger scale and deliberate targeting.

Ukraine is ready to provide Poland with all the necessary data available regarding this Russian strike. Ukraine is also ready to help Poland build an effective system of warning and protection against such Russian threats. It is clear that Russian aggression poses a danger to every independent nation in our region, and therefore only joint and coordinated action can guarantee reliable security.

The precedent of using combat aircraft from several European countries simultaneously to shoot down Russian weapons and protect human lives is highly significant. Ukraine has long proposed to its partners the creation of a joint air-defense system to ensure the guaranteed downing of “shaheds”, other drones, and missiles through the combined strength of our combat aviation and air defenses. Together, Europeans are always stronger. Russia must feel that the response to this escalatory step, and even more so to an attempt to humiliate one of Europe’s key countries, will be clear and strong from all partners.

António Costa, President of the European Council:

Last night’s events are a stark reminder that the security of one is the security of all.

We stand in full solidarity with Poland following Russia’s unacceptable violation of its airspace. Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine and reckless airspace incursions into EU Member States pose a direct threat to the safety of all Europeans and to critical infrastructure across our continent.

Poland is right to take necessary steps to defend its sovereignty.

Europe is increasing investment in its defence, because peace and security in Europe cannot be taken for granted.

Emmanuel Macron:

The incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace during an attack conducted by Russia against Ukraine is simply unacceptable. I condemn it in the strongest terms. I call on Russia to put an end to this reckless escalation. I reiterate to the Polish people and their government our full solidarity. I will soon speak with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. We will not compromise on the security of the Allies.

Edgars Rinkēvičs:

Full support and solidarity with our Polish friends and allies over the incursion of Russian drones in Poland. Clear testimony that Russian aggression in Ukraine affects us directly and appropriate measures must be taken. Allies are and should be working together.

Prime Minister: “I thank the Polish pilots and NATO pilots for their service during these dramatic hours in Polish skies. It was a difficult and risky, yet effective operation.

Prime Minister: “The downing of drones threatening our security is a success of the Polish and NATO forces, which at the same time changes the political situation. Accordingly, allied consultations have taken the form of a formal request to invoke Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

Prime Minister: “In the consultations and preliminary talks, particularly active are the leaders of countries that have long cooperated with Poland and understand the Russian threat – Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Baltic states. I also spoke this morning with the NATO Secretary General.

Prime Minister: “Today Poland faces a political adversary who does not hide hostile intentions beyond our eastern border. We must focus all forces and resources on defending the country against this real threat.

Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA): “The Chief of Police declared an alert in four garrisons, which means that all active police officers immediately reported for duty. The Chief Command of the State Fire Service (PSP) and other services under the Ministry of Interior and Administration were also on highest alert since the night hours to ensure safety and a swift response in any situation.

Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA): “As of 11:00 a.m., we have information about locations where drones and missile debris were found, reported by the National Police Headquarters and Voivodeship Police Headquarters. The situation is dynamic. We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.

Armed Forces Operational Command

We inform that the threat of possible violations of Polish airspace by drone-type objects has returned to normal, and we are not observing further strikes by the Russian Federation on Ukraine.

The security situation of our airspace has been stabilized, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to standard operational activity.”

“The Polish Armed Forces are monitoring the situation in Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

Territorial Defence Force Command (DWOT)

Territorial Defence Force (WOT) Ground Search and Rescue Teams (NZPR) have been deployed to search for the wreckage of downed drones.

Currently, 6 NZPR teams with a total of about 130 soldiers, along with subunits supporting services and public administration, are in operation. Searches are being conducted in confirmed and probable crash sites of drones and their debris. About 450 soldiers from the 3rd Podlaska Brigade of Territorial Defence, the 18th Subcarpathian Brigade of Territorial Defence, and the 20th Bartoszyce Brigade of Territorial Defence remain on standby.

At 5:00 a.m., shortened reporting times were introduced: 6 hours for WOT brigades located in eastern Poland and 12 hours for units in central Poland.

General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces: “In connection with the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones, General Wiesław Kukuła, Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, remains in constant contact with General Alexis Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). The cooperation and professionalism of our soldiers demonstrate that the security of Poland and NATO is in good hands.

Ruben Brekelmans confirmed that Dutch F-35As took part in shooting down the drones:

National Security Bureau (BBN): “President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki, as well as the National Security Bureau, share the position of the Polish government that Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty should be applied in the situation we are facing.

Today the situation is more clear than a few years ago, when many of our allies still had doubts as to whether it was necessary to respond more adequately, firmly, and decisively to Russian actions against allies, against Poland,” said Head of the National Security Bureau Sławomir Cenckiewicz after the meeting held in connection with the violation of Polish airspace.

Another report from the Commander of our Air Force. We are clarifying all available data and analyzing the details of this Russian strike.

Already during the night, Ukrainian forces were informing the Polish side through the relevant channels about the movement of Russian drones.

At around 00:50 Kyiv time, the first crossing of the state border between Ukraine and Poland by a Russian drone was recorded. At least two Russian drones that entered Polish territory during the night used Belarusian airspace. In total, at least several dozen Russian drones were moving along the border of Ukraine and Belarus and across western regions of Ukraine, approaching targets on Ukrainian territory and, apparently, on Polish territory.

The number of Russian drones that traversed into Poland and penetrated deeply into its territory may be greater than the previously announced figure. According to updated data, around two dozen of Russian drones may have entered Polish airspace during the night. We are verifying this.

Our air defense forces destroyed more than 380 Russian drones of various types. At least 250 of them were “Shaheds.” Precise information on the drone types will be determined after an analysis of the debris.

Ukraine is ready to expand our cooperation with partners for reliable protection of the sky. So that we have not only information and intelligence data sharing, but also real joint actions that guarantee security of the neighbors. Russia must feel that Europeans know how to defend themselves.

Viktor Orban:

Hungary stands in full solidarity with Poland following the recent drone incident. The violation of Poland’s territorial integrity is unacceptable.

The incident proves that our policy of calling for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war is reasonable and rational. Living in the shadow of a war is fraught with risks and dangers. It’s time to make it stop! To this end, we support the efforts of President @realDonaldTrump aimed at achieving peace.

Petr Pavel:

The Russian drones shot down last night over Polish territory clearly confirm how much the escalating Russian aggression affects us. The Czech Republic, our neighbors, and Europe are not safe. We cannot pretend that this war does not concern us. We stand with Poland, our allied partner.

Lithuanian Ministry Of National Defence: “Russian drones entering Polish airspace pose a serious risk to NATO’s eastern flank. Lithuania stands with Poland, supports its Article 4 request, and calls for urgent strengthening of collective air defence.

Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA): “As announced, we are providing updated information. According to Police data, as of 3:00 p.m. we can confirm the discovery of drone debris in 10 localities: Czosnówka, Cześniki, Krzywowierzba-Kolonia, Mniszków, Oleśno, Wielki Łan, Wohyń, Wyhalew, Wyryki, Zabłocie-Kolonia.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ): “Polish airspace was violated 19 times today. Russian drones entered Polish territory and the decision was made to shoot them down. We have no doubt that this was not an accidental incident.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ): “We are facing an unprecedented case of an attack not only on the territory of Poland, but also on the territory of NATO and the EU. Accordingly, Poland has requested the activation of Article 4 of the Treaty by the North Atlantic Alliance. This morning I instructed Poland’s Permanent Representative to NATO, Jacek Najder, on this matter.

Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement on summoning Andrei Ordash, chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Warsaw:

On 10 September 2025, Russia’s chargé d’affaires Andrei Ordash was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He received a note of protest after the Polish airspace had been violated multiple times by Russian unmanned aircraft on the night between 9 and 10 September.”

“In the wake of the unfriendly actions taken by the Russian Federation and an unprecedented attack on the territory of a NATO and EU member state, the diplomat was informed of Poland’s strong opposition against such a flagrant breach of norms and obligations under international law. Russia’s actions are a testament to its lack of credibility as a responsible member of the international community and a permanent member of the UN Security Council.”

“The violation of Poland’s airspace by Russian drones is treated as another deliberate provocation as well as a real threat to the civilian population, the infrastructure, and aviation safety. For this reason, the Russian side was called to immediately provide explanations on the incursion into the Polish airspace and to cease the unfriendly and provocative actions against Poland. It was stressed that the latter are taken while the armed invasion of Ukraine continues across our eastern border, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski

Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz: “I spoke with the defense ministers of allied countries from the United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Finland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, and Ukraine. All assured their support for our decisive actions. We remain in contact with the NATO Secretary General and other allies.

Ruben Brekelmans: “The Netherlands already decided to deliver layered air defence to east Poland later this year. With 2 Patriot systems, NASAMS, counter drone systems and 300 troops, we’ll deploy advanced capabilities. Today has shown this is more important than ever for our joint security.

Donald Tusk: “In my talks today with Emmanuel Macron, Keir Starmer, Volodymyr Zelensky, Giorgia Meloni, Dick Schoof, and Mark Rutte, I received not only expressions of solidarity with Poland, but above all proposals of concrete support for strengthening our country’s air defense.
