On Monday, 1 December 2025, Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Zalewski took part in the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union in the defense ministers’ format, held in Brussels. The discussions focused on the ongoing peace process, options for supporting Ukraine, and initiatives related to the EU’s defense readiness.

The meeting was attended by NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska and Ukraine’s Minister of Defence Denys Shmyhal. On the same day, a session of the Steering Board of the European Defence Agency (EDA) also took place.
Deputy Minister Paweł Zalewski emphasized the need for the EU to continue its support for Ukraine and for the Union to remain engaged in the peace process. He stressed that no decisions concerning Poland can be taken without our participation. Russia, as the aggressor, must not be allowed to influence the European security architecture.
He also addressed the issue of Poland’s participation in EU initiatives related to defense readiness, including SAFE. He underlined the scale of Poland’s involvement in SAFE, identifying our country as the main beneficiary and emphasizing its readiness to take part in further instruments aimed at strengthening the EU’s defense readiness (The Polish Ministry of National Defence has submitted applications to the European Commission under the SAFE program).
