On Monday, 3 November 2025, Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the U.S. company Allison Transmission Inc., a global leader in the production of automatic transmissions for military and special-purpose vehicles.

The agreement marks another important step in the continued development of HSW’s competencies, in this case in the design and production of modern gearboxes—one of the key components of the powerpacks used in the combat vehicles manufactured in Stalowa Wola.
“Signing the MoA with Allison Transmission Inc. is another stage in strengthening national industrial capabilities,” emphasised the president of Huta Stalowa Wola. “Through cooperation with a global leader in automatic transmissions, HSW gains access to cutting-edge technologies that will be used in vehicles such as the Borsuk, as well as in future tracked and wheeled platform projects,” he added.
Allison Transmission Inc. is a leading manufacturer of fully automatic medium- and heavy-duty transmissions used in both civilian and military vehicles—from trucks to armoured personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles. Allison transmissions are used in over 80 countries worldwide, including the armed forces of allied nations.
The agreement is another example of the development of HSW’s competencies in advanced propulsion systems and confirms the company’s key role in building Poland’s modern defence capabilities. The MoA follows a letter of intent signed on 22 May this year (Preliminary Cooperation Agreement Signed Between Huta Stalowa Wola and Allison Transmission).
Allison transmissions are used, among others, in Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles (X300 in prototypes and 3040 MX in serial production), as well as in numerous other systems operated by the Polish Armed Forces: 155 mm self-propelled howitzers K9A1 Thunder (SNT Dynamics/Allison Transmission X1100-5A3) and AHS Krab (X1100-5A3), M1A1FEP and M1A2SEPv3 Abrams tanks (DDA X-1100-3B), M88A2 HERCULES armoured recovery vehicles (XT-1410-5A), Waran 4×4 multipurpose tactical vehicles and future Heron 6×6 command vehicles (type 4500SP), the Kleszcz Light Armoured Reconnaissance Carrier (based on the Bóbr-3; type not specified), and even in the prototype Jelcz 442.32 Automatic truck (3000 SP).
On 22 November 2024, the U.S. Army Contracting Command (ACC) at Detroit Arsenal, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense, signed a contract worth USD 80,652,849 with Allison Transmission Inc. for support services related to the operation of transmissions in military vehicles used by the Polish Armed Forces.
