On Wednesday, 10 December 2025, the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ) announced on social media that, together with the Nauta Shiprepair Yard, as part of a consortium, they had signed contracts with the Naval Port Command in Świnoujście for the repair of additional Project 207P minesweepers.
As stated in the press release, this is another step in the modernization of the Polish Navy and a continuation of proven cooperation, under which vessels such as ORP Necko (639), ORP Nakło (640), and ORP Mamry (643) have already been upgraded.
“We are not only meeting the maintenance needs of the Polish Navy, but also confirming the high efficiency and professionalism of the Consortium’s work. So far, all work on the minesweepers has been completed ahead of schedule,” PGZ reports.
The modernization will include:
- replacing the worn-out Russian main propulsion engines and generators with modern units from reputable Western manufacturers;
- upgrading the engine control center, navigation systems, and communications systems;
- protecting the hull and superstructure against the harsh marine environment, which will significantly extend the service life of the vessels.
A new addition will be a compartment for underwater vehicles intended for monitoring critical infrastructure and the seabed.
The work will begin at the start of 2026 and will continue until the end of the third quarter of 2027. The goal is to provide the Polish Navy with modern, fully operational vessels, ready to carry out the most demanding tasks within the contractual timeframe.
Earlier, on 22 August 2024, PGZ Stocznia Wojenna (PGZ Naval Shipyard) reported the signing of a contract with the Naval Port Command in Świnoujście for the medium and dock overhaul of ORP Drużno (641), a Project 207P vessel, as well as the major and dock overhaul of ORP Wigry (644), a Project 207M vessel. Both ships belong to the 12th Minesweeper Squadron of the 8th Coastal Defence Flotilla in Świnoujście.
