ICEYE is a global leader in the design and manufacturing of Earth observation systems based on satellites equipped with synthetic aperture radar (SAR). The company specializes in building dedicated satellite constellations and providing data and analytical products used in areas such as defense, crisis management, agriculture, and climate change research.
Over the course of 10 years, ICEYE has grown from a small Polish-Finnish project into an international company with offices in Poland, Finland, Greece, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States. The Polish subsidiary is a key pillar of the company. In Warsaw, ICEYE operates its Satellite Operations Center – responsible for the global management of the ICEYE constellation – as well as its satellite planning team and research & development laboratory, where critical subsystems are designed and manufactured, including the attitude determination and control system (ADCS), radio, radar management system, and power systems. Work is ongoing to expand the capabilities of the Polish office further.
“We are extremely pleased that Vinci, together with the BGK Group, recognizes the strategic need to invest in space technologies, whose importance for security and the global economy is constantly increasing. New Space companies such as ICEYE, through their dynamism and innovation, are radically reshaping the space industry. This is an investment in the future – one that will benefit Poland,” commented Rafał Modrzewski, CEO and co-founder of ICEYE.
“By signing the agreement with ICEYE through Vinci, Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego is implementing its 2025–2030 strategy, which emphasizes supporting innovative Polish technologies. The solutions offered by ICEYE are a strong example of dual-use technology. ICEYE’s satellites provide data that can be utilized in agriculture, crisis management, and defense applications. The company has already established a strong market position, having recently signed a contract with the Polish Ministry of National Defense,” said Mirosław Czekaj, CEO of BGK (Contract Signed for the Delivery of the Satellite Earth Observation System under the MikroSAR Program).
Vinci S.A. is a venture capital and private equity fund management company belonging to the Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK) Group. The company manages funds with a total capitalization of 1.1 billion PLN, focusing on investments that support international expansion, competitiveness, and growth of companies, as well as innovation and the preservation of intellectual property in Poland. Vinci supports companies at various stages of development, offering financing ranging from 10 million PLN to 90 million PLN in the form of minority equity investments, mezzanine financing, and private debt.
Vinci is investing over 40 million PLN in ICEYE, with the possibility of increasing its capital commitment in the future.
“Our investment in ICEYE means that Poland is entering a completely new segment of the satellite industry at an early stage. High-quality satellite data can be applied in both defense and intelligence operations, as well as in the prevention and mitigation of natural disasters. The Earth observation market is growing at a pace of 2 billion USD annually, driven by demand from both governments and the private sector,” said Bartosz Drabikowski, CEO of Vinci, a BGK Group fund supporting the development of innovative technologies. “We are entering this promising market with great ambition, seeing it as an opportunity not only for Poland’s growth but also for increasing Vinci’s capital. Right after the second space flight in history by a Pole, we are announcing our first investment in space technologies,” he added.
ICEYE owns and operates the world’s largest constellation of SAR satellites, offering global access to radar data with the highest available revisit frequency and a resolution of 25 cm, enabling precise detection of objects regardless of weather conditions or time of day. Since 2018, ICEYE has launched 54 SAR satellites for its own constellation and for clients. Starting this year, the company plans to launch around 20 new satellites annually. In May 2025, the company signed an agreement with the Ministry of National Defense of Poland to deliver three radar satellites to the Polish Armed Forces under the MikroSAR program (Six new satellites for ICEYE and its customers launched aboard the Transporter-14 rideshare mission).
