“Another important step in strengthening our defense! Eight modern Krab howitzers, produced in our domestic industrial facilities, have been delivered to the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment. The unit is also receiving components of the Regina artillery battalion fire module, which significantly increases the capabilities of our artillery,” wrote the Minister of National Defense on the social platform X.
The first delivery this year, also to the 23rd Artillery Regiment, took place almost a month earlier, on 25 August. According to the current schedule, HSW is to deliver 34 howitzers in 2025, 32 in 2026, and the remaining 24 in 2027.
On 8 December 2023, a framework agreement was concluded for the delivery of another 152 units, and the first contract for 96 of them in a modernized version, was signed on 23 December 2024, it provides for deliveries in 2027–2029. On 7 April of this year, HSW signed a contract with the South Korean company Hanwha Aerospace for the supply of chassis components, including power packs for the AHS Krab.
The howitzers are being procured together with accompanying vehicles for the Regina artillery battalion fire modules (DMO).
The second primary 155 mm NATO-caliber tube artillery system in the Polish Armed Forces is the South Korean K9A1 Thunder howitzer, produced by the aforementioned Hanwha Aerospace.
So far, 150 out of the 212 units ordered on 26 August 2022 have been delivered. Then, on 1 December 2023, an additional 6 K9A1s and 146 Polish-configured K9PLs were ordered, and on 2 December 2024 the Ministry of National Defense announced that the execution of this order had begun.
