On Thursday, November 13, 2025, the Polish-Finnish company ICEYE, in partnership with the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) and the Polish Armaments Group, opened an immersive educational exhibition titled Vigilance from Orbit. The temporary exhibition, presented at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw, showcases the history of Earth observation from space as well as military and civilian applications of satellites. The exhibition is held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of National Defence.

The aim of the exhibition is to educate visitors about the growing importance of space-based Earth-observation technologies and the satellite programs carried out by the Polish Armed Forces. It is also a celebration of a historic milestone—the launch of the first Polish military satellite under the MikroSAR program, planned for the second half of November. This will be the first sovereign operational satellite asset at the disposal of the Polish Armed Forces (Contract Signed for the Delivery of the Satellite Earth Observation System under the MikroSAR Program).
At the exhibition, visitors can learn about the history of satellite programs and the modern military, civilian, and scientific applications of satellites and Earth-observation data. The centerpiece is an immersive installation that allows visitors to travel into orbit and view satellite imagery of different parts of the world. The exhibition space also features a model of an ICEYE radar satellite – the type of hardware launched into orbit as part of the MikroSAR program.
MikroSAR is one of the four satellite programs of the Polish Armed Forces—alongside GLOB and MikroGLOB (electro-optical satellites) and the PIAST research project coordinated by the Military University of Technology. The program provides for the acquisition of three radar satellites capable of Earth observation and object detection in all weather conditions, both day and night, as well as a ground segment delivered by Military Communications Works No. 1, part of the Polish Armaments Group. The satellites are being built by ICEYE, a Polish-Finnish company specializing in the development of dedicated satellite constellations and the provision of data and analytical products used in defense, crisis management, agriculture, and climate-change monitoring (MikroGlob Satellite Earth Observation System for the Polish Armed Forces).
Participants in the ceremonial opening of the exhibition included: the Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence, Cezary Tomczyk; the President of the Polish Space Agency, Marta Ewa Wachowicz; ICEYE’s CEO and co-founder, Rafał Modrzewski; and the President of the Polish Armaments Group, Adam Leszkiewicz.
“As we await the launch of the first military radar satellite and the satellites being developed under the research and development program of the Military University of Technology, we are opening an educational exhibition that shows how important satellite capabilities have become today. Education is crucial here – we want to demonstrate the practical applications of space technologies and place particular emphasis on those capabilities that will be the first to enhance the reconnaissance potential of the Polish Armed Forces. These are our own eyes in space: for the safety of our soldiers, for the resilience of the state, and for better preparedness in crisis situations,” said Deputy Minister of National Defence Cezary Tomczyk.
ICEYE CEO and co-founder Rafał Modrzewski commented: “It is an honor for us that an ICEYE satellite will become the first operational national space asset in the history of the Polish Armed Forces. Space is growing in importance in the global economy and in the security domain, and the increasing interest of Poles in space is the best confirmation of this trend. With this exhibition, we want to educate the public on why satellite technologies – especially Earth observation – are essential today and what their real-world applications are. I would like to thank our partners for supporting this project.”
“Thanks to SAR satellites, we can observe the Earth with a level of precision that until recently was unimaginable. The ability to see the world in all conditions—even during a cloudy Polish autumn or at night—is a significant technological advancement for Poland and an important step in the field of security. This is also, as shown in the exhibition, the context for the very practical applications of SAR data. Extremely precise terrain observation, regardless of time of day or weather conditions, can be used to monitor borders, track vessel movements, control critical infrastructure, and analyze environmental and urban changes,” said Marta Wachowicz, President of the Polish Space Agency.
“We are proud that the Polish Armaments Group and Military Communications Works No. 1 in Zegrze are part of such an important project for Poland’s technological and defense development, delivering the ground segment and satellite antenna for the SAR Satellite Earth Observation System under the MikroSAR program. The solution developed by WZŁ-1 S.A. integrates communication and data-transmission systems, security systems, power systems, and the antenna system. It enables fast, effective, and – above all – real-time information transfer to recipients at every command level within the Polish Armed Forces,” said Adam Leszkiewicz, President of the Management Board of the Polish Armaments Group.
The exhibition can be viewed at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw, in the Southern Pavilion at Plac Gwardii Pieszej Koronnej. Opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. (last entry at 7:20 p.m.). Admission to the temporary exhibition is free. The exhibition runs from November 14 to 21. During its run, meetings with experts will also take place—the detailed schedule is available on the museum’s website.
