“Poland and Canada are trusted allies. We have been cooperating for years. On August 5 of this year, we signed an agreement on an action plan for the next two years – it covers 33 tasks that we will jointly implement with Canada. I am pleased with Canada’s acceptance of my invitation to be the leading partner at next year’s Defence Industry Fair – the International Defence Industry Exhibition in Kielce. We have agreed on further actions, particularly on strengthening cooperation between our defense industries and the joint development of capabilities, as well as training and exercises for our troops,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz after his talks with Canadian Minister of Defence David J. McGuinty.
Speaking about Polish–Canadian cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz said:
“We want to create Polish–Canadian joint venture companies, work together for a safer Europe, and invest jointly in Ukraine. In June this year, Canada signed an agreement with the European Union on a key partnership. We aim to secure funding from European programs to develop our industries jointly. Today, we devoted particular attention to the cyber domain. Our Cyberspace Defence Component Command is very highly regarded. The entire component, the whole philosophy of building cyber forces, is highly valued by our Western partners. Poland is a leader here in implementing artificial intelligence, as well as in developing responses to incidents that occur so frequently in the Polish cyberspace.”
The head of the Polish Ministry of National Defence recalled that over 100 Canadian soldiers are currently in Poland, conducting a training mission for Ukrainian troops.
“Under Canadian command, Polish soldiers are also serving in Latvia, as part of the Polish military contingent, which includes around 300 Polish troops and Polish tanks. We learn there, we train together, we cooperate. It is one of the contingents most highly valued by Polish soldiers,” said the Minister of National Defence (Leopard 2PL during the Oak Resolve 2025 exercise).
Before the meeting at the Ministry of National Defence, Prime Ministers Donald Tusk and Mark Carney announced in Warsaw a renewed Polish–Canadian partnership, highlighting joint support for Ukraine, strengthening NATO, and investing in the security of future generations.
Poland and Canada declared the development of cooperation in the fields of nuclear energy, hydrogen, and renewable energy sources. Energy issues were also a key topic of discussion at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister confirmed that Poland would not send its soldiers to Ukraine but would be responsible for organizing logistical assistance and protecting the eastern borders of the EU.
Deputy Prime Minister Kamysz’s previous two meetings were with then–Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair, on December 18, 2023, and December 18, 2024. Earlier, on October 11, 2022, the then-ministers Mariusz Błaszczak and Anita Anand met in Warsaw.
