Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine wrote
„In many of our regions, efforts are currently underway to eliminate the consequences of the Russian attack. It is known that Russia launched more than 470 attack drones and 48 missiles of various types – ballistic and cruise – at Ukraine overnight.
In Ternopil, residential nine-story buildings were hit, and fires broke out. Unfortunately, there is significant destruction of buildings, and people may be trapped under the rubble. All necessary services are working on-site, doing everything possible to save every life. As of now, dozens of people are reported injured, and unfortunately nine people have been killed. My condolences to their families.
A massive strike also hit our Kharkiv in the evening. Dozens of people in the city were wounded, including children. Energy infrastructure, transport, and civilian facilities were damaged. Our energy infrastructure in Ivano-Frankivsk region was attacked as well. Three people were injured, two of whom are children. In Lviv region, critical infrastructure and energy facilities were targeted. One person was wounded in Donetsk region. Kyiv region, Mykolaiv region, Cherkasy region, Chernihiv region, and Dnipro region also came under attack.
Every brazen attack against ordinary life demonstrates that the pressure on Russia is insufficient. Effective sanctions and assistance to Ukraine can change this. The top priority is air-defense missiles, additional systems, increased capabilities of our combat aviation, and drone production to protect lives.
Russia must be held accountable for what it has done, and we must stay focused on everything that strengthens us and enables us to shoot down Russian missiles, neutralize Russian drones, and stop assaults. I thank everyone around the world who is helping.”

At 4:27 a.m., the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces (DO RSZ) issued a statement:
„Attention. Due to the attack carried out by the Russian Federation against targets located on the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied aircraft are operating in our airspace.
In accordance with applicable procedures, the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces has activated the necessary forces and assets at his disposal. Quick-reaction fighter pairs and an early-warning aircraft have been scrambled, while ground-based air-defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness.
These actions are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing and protecting airspace, especially in areas adjacent to threatened regions.
The Operational Command continues to monitor the situation, and the forces and assets under its authority remain ready to respond immediately.”
Another statement was issued at 8:34 a.m.:
„The operation of Polish and allied aircraft in our airspace, related to the Russian Federation’s strikes on Ukraine, has been concluded. Ground-based air-defense and radar-reconnaissance systems that had been activated have returned to standard operational activity.
We inform that no violation of Polish airspace has been observed.
We thank NATO, the NATO Allied Air Command, the Royal Norwegian Air Force, the Spanish Air Force, and the Royal Netherlands Air Force, whose aircraft—acting within the framework of the Eastern Sentry mission—helped ensure the security of Polish airspace today. We also extend our thanks to the Bundeswehr for its support through the Patriot systems, which strengthen the protection of Poland’s skies.
The Polish Armed Forces, in accordance with the assumptions of Operation Eastern Aurora (Wschodnia Zorza), continuously monitor the situation on the territory of Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of Polish airspace.”
