Over 500 Drones and 50 Missiles Over Ukraine

Russia carried out another air and missile attack on Ukraine overnight, launching more than 550 combat assets, mostly drones, against nine regions.

On Sunday, October 5th, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on social media that from last night until this morning, the Russians had launched more than 500 Geran/Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles and various drone decoys (including Gerbera), as well as over 50 cruise and hypersonic missiles, targeting sites across nine regions of Ukraine.

The attack was repelled by the Air Force, air defense missile units, electronic warfare (EW) and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile air defense groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky:

Last night, Ukraine was once again under a combined Russian attack — more than 50 missiles and around 500 strike drones. They struck with cruise missiles, Shaheds, and even Kinzhals. The Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, and Kirovohrad regions were hit. As of now, it is known that about ten people were injured in the attack. Sadly, five have been killed. My sincere condolences to all who have lost their loved ones to this terror.

At this moment, rescue and recovery operations are underway wherever needed. I am receiving constant reports from Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba, from the heads of regional military administrations, and from the head of Naftogaz, Serhiy Koretskyi. I expect the most prompt and effective work from government officials in eliminating the consequences of this attack in the affected regions.

Today, the Russians once again struck our infrastructure — everything that ensures a normal life for people. We need greater protection and faster implementation of all defense agreements, especially concerning air defense, to render this aerial terror meaningless. A unilateral ceasefire in the sky is possible — and it is precisely that which could open the way to genuine diplomacy. America and Europe must act to make Putin stop.

Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine:

Lviv region. Four people were killed and another four were injured as a result of the Russian attack. The Russians terrorized the region for more than five hours with combined strikes. A number of facilities were damaged, including residential buildings.

National Police of Ukraine:

Last night and this morning, Russian forces carried out a combined missile and drone attack on the city of Lviv and the surrounding region. Damage to residential buildings and industrial facilities has been reported.

As of 11:20 a.m., four people have been killed, including a 15-year-old girl, and six others have been injured.

Police officers, rescuers, and representatives of other specialized services continue to work at the scene. Investigators are documenting the aftermath of yet another war crime committed by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation against the civilian population.

Information regarding the extent of the damage and the number of casualties is being clarified.

Once again, we urge everyone: do not ignore air raid alerts. During a threat, remain in shelters until the all-clear signal is given. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones.”

Communication Department of the Lviv Region Police

At 4:13 a.m., the Armed Forces Operational Command issued a statement:

Attention: During the night of October 4th–5th, 2025, the Russian Federation once again carried out strikes against targets located on the territory of Ukraine.

In order to ensure the security of Polish airspace, the Armed Forces Operational Command has activated all necessary procedures. Polish and allied aircraft are operating intensively within our airspace, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached the highest state of readiness.

These actions are preventive in nature and are aimed at securing airspace and protecting citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened region.

The Armed Forces Operational Command continues to monitor the current situation, and subordinate forces and assets remain in full readiness to respond immediately.

Another statement was issued at 8:10 a.m.:

The operation of Polish and allied aircraft in our airspace has concluded following the cessation of Russian Federation strikes against Ukraine.

We extend our gratitude to NATO, the NATO Allied Air Command, and the Royal Netherlands Air Force, whose F-35 fighters helped ensure the safety of Polish skies last night.

The activated ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have returned to standard operational activity.

We confirm that no violations of Polish airspace have been observed. The Polish Armed Forces continue to closely monitor the situation in Ukraine and remain in constant readiness to ensure the security of Poland’s airspace.

That same night, Ukrainian forces carried out a drone attack on Russia. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, air defense forces destroyed and intercepted 32 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 11 over the Belgorod region, 11 over the Voronezh region, 5 over the Nizhny Novgorod region, and one each over the Bryansk, Kursk, Tula, and Tambov regions, as well as the Republic of Mordovia.

UPDATE

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, with a delay, released details of the Russian attack at 1:20 p.m. Polish time.

Starting from 8:30 p.m. the previous evening, the Russians launched 549 aerial attack assets, including:

  • 496 Geran/Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles (over 250) and various drone decoys (including Gerbera) launched from the directions of Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Oryol, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and Kacha in Crimea;
  • 2 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic/hypersonic missiles from the Lipetsk region;
  • 42 Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles from the Samara, Kursk, and Bryansk regions;
  • 9 Kalibr cruise missiles launched from ships in the Black Sea.

The main direction of the attack was the Lviv region. According to preliminary data, as of 2:00 p.m. local time, Ukrainian air defense systems had shot down or forced to crash 478 aerial targets, including 439 drones, 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missile, 32 Kh-101/Iskander-K missiles, and 6 Kalibr missiles.

In addition, six enemy missiles failed to reach their targets, and the impact sites are being verified. Hits from 8 missiles and 57 drones were recorded in 20 locations, as well as fallen debris in six locations.
