Son Of Gun is mainly known for its range of AR-15 rifles, available in various configurations. Among them are models utilizing the traditional gas impingement system and those using a piston system. One of the novelties is an online configurator that allows you to create your own personalized rifle.

Their offer also includes AR-9 pistol caliber carbines, derived from the AR-15 design, available in several variants.

Last year, the company shared with the shooting community (both on Facebook and on online forums) information about the development of new firearm designs, which are officially being added to the catalog this year.

The first of them is the 9mm x 19 submachine gun – SOG-X. It operates using blowback energy, and is divided into upper and lower receivers. The upper receiver is made of 6061-T6 aluminum. Two barrel lengths are presented in the catalog: 6 and 8 inches (152 and 203 mm).

In the lower receiver, the polymer trigger assembly is integrated with the magazine well (for Glock pistol magazines) and the buffer tube, inside of which a recoil spring is housed. The control layout is similar to that of the AR-15 – in the latest version, ambidextrous controls are expected to be present.

The second new firearm is the SOG-LE rifle, using .223 Remington/5.56 mm x 45 NATO, .300 Blackout (AR-15 magazines), or 9 mm x 19 Parabellum (Glock magazines) ammunition. At first glance, it appears to be an enlarged version of the SOG-X, and this impression is not entirely misleading, as it features a similar structural layout.

Its operating principle is based on the interaction of propellant gasses with a short-stroke piston. The bolt carrier group remarkably resembles that of the AR-15 – there is also a recoil mechanism requiring the use of a fixed stock (similar to that of the SOG-X) connecting to the polymer trigger housing. The bolt carrier and receiver are made of anodized 6061-T6 aluminum. The rifle will be available in variants with barrel lengths:

  • 10.5 inches (266 mm),
  • 12.7 inches (322 mm),
  • 14.5 inches (368 mm),
  • 16 inches (406 mm).

Both designs utilize AR-15 trigger mechanisms, allowing for interchangeability with one of the many available replacements.

Both designs will be presented at the IWA OutdoorClassics 2024 trade fair (February 29th – March 3rd) in Nuremberg at booth Ü3C-17.
