The agreement, signed during the 33rd International Defence Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce, will enable deeper cooperation between the two entities in the development of defense systems and solutions providing cost-effective, reliable operational support in the naval and aviation domains. The SCA creates opportunities to combine competencies in the areas of ship design, construction, overhaul, and servicing, as well as aircraft fleet maintenance and the joint development of solutions for managing strategic assets for the armed forces.
Babcock has an established presence in Gdynia and Warsaw, already working closely with PGZ as the platform design provider and technology partner in the Miecznik frigate program. The Arrowhead 140 design developed by Babcock forms the basis of the project under which the Polish Navy will acquire three multi-mission frigates, significantly strengthening its combat capabilities and deterrence posture in the Baltic Sea and beyond (Start of construction of Burza, the second Miecznik-class frigate; Babcock continues development of the International Apprentice Exchange program in Poland; MSPO 2024: Babcock continues support to the Miecznik program).
David Lockwood, Chief Executive Officer of Babcock, who signed the SCA together with Adam Leszkiewicz, President of the Management Board of PGZ, said:
“The United Kingdom and Poland share a long-standing and close relationship, and our growing industrial partnership with PGZ will deepen our ties and accelerate support programs for the Polish Armed Forces, while also advancing our shared global ambitions in the air and maritime domains. The Miecznik program is an excellent example of the benefits our cooperation is already delivering.
We look forward to continuing to build on these strong foundations,” Lockwood concluded.
PGZ President Adam Leszkiewicz added:
“Building long-term relationships with international partners is key to PGZ’s strategy. Our cooperation with Babcock demonstrates true partnership. Today’s agreement is a milestone in our activities, which we are developing across multiple areas with future decades in mind. Together, we are strengthening not only the Polish Armed Forces but also the security and military potential of NATO.”
