Minister of Foreign Affairs: Poland has provided military aid to Ukraine worth 4.5 billion USD

On April 25th, Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski presented a report in the Sejm regarding the objectives of Polish foreign policy in 2024. He announced that so far Poland has provided military aid to Ukraine valued at approximately 4.5 billion USD.

On Thursday, April 25th, Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski presented in the Sejm information about the objectives of Polish foreign policy in 2024. He informed that so far Poland has provided military aid to Ukraine worth approximately 4.5 billion USD (about 18.16 billion PLN).

Since the Russian attack, Poland has approved 44 packages of military aid for Kyiv. The total value of Polish government support, excluding the multi-billion sums spent on assistance for refugees, amounted to approximately 4.5 billion dollars in the first two years of the war. By the end of 2023, over 950 thousand Ukrainians had found permanent shelter in our country, meaning they received an active PESEL identification number. The actual number of Ukrainian citizens residing in Poland or staying with us periodically after February 24, 2022, is, of course, several times larger. Many of them were taken in by Polish families immediately after the outbreak of the war. I thank millions of Poles who showed compassion to those in need. In times of trial, we behaved as we should, said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during his speech in Sejm.

The magnitude of Polish development and humanitarian aid has significantly increased since the Russian invasion. Over the past two years, we have become the main donor of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine. In total, Polish government ministries have spent 16 billion euros on comprehensive aid to Ukraine and Ukrainian war refugees, added Radosław Sikorski (16 billion EUR = 64.6 billion PLN/17.1 billion USD).

He also noted that in 2023, the value of Polish exports to Ukraine was estimated at almost 52 billion złoty – nearly 30 billion more than in 2020. A victorious and stable Ukraine will provide even greater investment opportunities. Our goal is to expand the space for security and prosperity to the east, to the benefit of all.

MILMAG Commentary

The last government announcement regarding military aid to Ukraine was made public by then-Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki on April 23, 2022 – at that time, it amounted to 1.7 billion USD (approximately 7 billion PLN). Subsequently, no further data was made public, except for the most significant donations, while information about many types and models of armament came from other sources.
