On Thursday, 4 December 2025, at the Geospatial Intelligence and Satellite Services Agency (ARGUS) in Warsaw, Brigadier General Marcin Górka, Director of the Innovation Department, signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) military wideband satellite communications system, which will provide global, secure, and jamming-resistant communications access for the Polish Armed Forces.
The WGS system will provide the Polish Armed Forces with advanced protection against jamming, enabling communications to be maintained even in close proximity to jamming sources. Access to the U.S. satellite constellation represents a key element in developing the capability for global, fully secure communications, complementing both the planned national military satellite communications system and the resources obtained through EU governmental satellite communications programs.
The ceremony was attended by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defence, Cezary Tomczyk, and the U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Thomas Rose.
Immediately after the agreement enters into force, the Polish Armed Forces will gain access to secure and reliable satellite communications resources across the entire global Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) constellation. Every branch and component of the Polish Armed Forces will be able to access twelve military communications satellites positioned in geostationary orbit, providing global coverage and very high data throughput.
The idea behind the WGS program is to share satellite constellation resources in the X and Mil-Ka bands, including co-financing the construction of additional satellites based on a percentage share of access to satellite capacities. Participants in the WGS project include the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and the Czech Republic. Each participant has access to the resources according to its own internal operational needs.
