On Monday evening, 1 December 2025, Polish Deputy Minister of National Defence Paweł Bejda and the Armament Agency announced on social media that a transport ship carrying the fourth batch of M1A2SEPv3 Abrams (System Enhanced Package version 3) tanks, out of a total of 250 ordered for the Land Forces, had arrived in Poland from the United States.
“The fourth delivery of the newest Abrams tanks has arrived. At this moment, 32 M1A2 tanks are being unloaded in one of the Polish ports. Ultimately, they will enter service with the Polish Armed Forces, but first they will undergo deprocessing at the facilities of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa,” wrote the Deputy Minister of National Defence responsible for overseeing the technical modernization of the Polish Armed Forces.
“Preparations for St. Nicholas’ Day are in full swing. The unloading of 32 M1A2SEPv3 Abrams tanks is underway,” reads the post on the Armament Agency’s profile on the social platform X, which also shared a short video.
The vehicles will join the 28 tanks delivered to Poland on 18 January of this year, the 19 received on 9 May, and the 38 delivered on 11 September. This means that the United States has now delivered 117 tanks, nearly half of the total order.
As before, the tanks delivered yesterday will next be transported to the Abrams Regional Competence Centre in Poznań, located within the Wojskowe Zakłady Motoryzacyjne (WZM, Military Automotive Works), part of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), to undergo so-called deprocessing – an expanded zero-hour inspection following long-duration sea transport.”
Meanwhile, on 28 November of this year, the Armament Agency, on behalf of the Polish Ministry of National Defence, signed a contract worth approx. 100 million USD net (365.61 million PLN net / 449.7 million PLN gross) for the purchase of an additional 11 M88A2 HERCULES (Heavy Equipment Recovery Combat Utility Lifting Extraction System) armored recovery vehicles and several weapon-repair and vehicle-maintenance workshops, with deliveries scheduled until 2029.
On 14 November of this year, Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze No. 1 (WZL-1), also a part of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, signed a framework agreement with the 2nd Regional Logistics Base for inspection, servicing, and overhaul of Honeywell AGT1500 turbine engines used in Abrams tanks.
On 31 July, the Ministry of National Defence ordered 25 M1150 ABV (Assault Breacher Vehicle) combat engineering vehicles based on the M1A1 Abrams chassis.
M1A2SEPv3 Abrams for Poland
On 5 April 2022, the Ministry of National Defence signed a contract with the Government of the United States, worth 4.75 billion USD, for the delivery of 250 M1A2SEPv3 Abrams tanks together with accompanying equipment, including 26 M88A2 HERCULES armored recovery vehicles and 17 M1074 JAB (Joint Assault Bridge) assault bridges, as well as a training package, logistics package, and ammunition stock.
These will complement the 116 used M1A1FEP (Firepower Enhancement Package) tanks already delivered. The last shipment arrived in Poland on 26 June 2024, and on 26 November the re-equipment of the second unit began – the 1st Tank Battalion of the 19th Mechanized Brigade in Żurawica (previous deliveries went to the 1st Tank Battalion of the 1st Warsaw Armored Brigade in Wesoła).
To date, the Polish Armed Forces have therefore received 233 Abrams tanks of both versions out of 366 ordered. These complement the 180 K2GF Heuk-Pyo (Black Panther) tanks out of 360 ordered (together with the K2PL variant; out of a planned total of 1000), which will ultimately replace all T-72M1/M1R and PT-91 Twardy tanks. These are supplemented by 105 older Leopard 2A5 tanks and Leopard 2A4 tanks being upgraded to the Leopard 2PL/M1 standard – of which 82 have been delivered out of 128 planned for modernization (per the contract with an option for 14 more, but that same number was transferred to Ukraine). In total, this amounts to 646 Western-designed tanks (approximately 100 T-72 family tanks and 172 PT-91 Twardy tanks also remain in service).
