On Sunday, August 17, 2025, Ukrainian journalist Yefrem Lukatsky, working with the Associated Press, published on his Facebook profile a photograph of the new Ukrainian cruise missile Flamingo, which is reported to have a range of over 3,000 km. It appears to be a project of Milanion Group Ltd, designated FP-5.
The photograph presented yesterday by the journalist was reportedly taken at an undisclosed location on August 14. It shows two cruise missiles mounted on a towed platform. The missile is said to have entered serial production, handled by the Kyiv-based company Fire Point, which already supplies the Armed Forces of Ukraine with FP-1 strike drones (designed by the Czech-Ukrainian company UAC), used in combat operations against targets in Russia since their debut in May of this year.
Although the technical details are not known, Flamingo closely resembles the FP-5 project developed by the private company Milanion Group Ltd, registered in the United Kingdom, as the declared range of 3,000 km matches.
Other tactical and technical parameters of the FP-5 include a maximum flight altitude of 5,000 m, a maximum flight time of 4 hours, a cruising speed of 850–900 km/h, a maximum speed of 950 km/h, maximum takeoff weight of 6,000 kg, including a 1,000 kg warhead, and a wingspan of 6 m. The guidance system consists of GPS, GNSS/GLONASS, resistant to electronic jamming, combined with inertial navigation. Launch is carried out from a ground platform with solid-fuel rocket-assisted takeoff. Preparation time for launch is 20–40 minutes.
Until now, the longest-range system of this class had been the Neptun-MD missile (known as Long Neptun), a variant of the RK-360MC Neptun coastal defense anti-ship missile, adapted for striking land targets at ranges of up to 1,000 km. Beyond that, Ukraine’s main arsenal for deep strikes inside Russia has consisted of long-range drones of various types, in service with the Unmanned Systems Forces, such as the An-196 Liutyi, A-22, Pieklo, or Palanytsia. It is also worth mentioning the new ballistic missile with a range of 300 km, previously known as Hrom-2/Sapsan.
